Is Pakistan Subservience to Saudi Arabia?

By: Kayhan Int’l

Saudi Arabia’s wealth, or more properly the looted wealth of the deprived and oppressed people of the eastern oil-rich region of the Peninsula which the regime in Riyadh squanders in billions of dollars for breeding Takfiri terrorism, for filling US coffers to buy weapons to kill fellow Muslims, for destabilizing Syria and Iraq, for promoting the evil idea of Arab-Israeli alliance against Islam modelled on the days of Jahiliyya when the Meccan infidels and the Israelites had ganged up against Prophet Muhammad (SAWA), and for pressuring heads of other countries to follow Saudi dictates (for a paltry sum), is turning out to be counterproductive.
The latest fiasco in the last named case, two years after the summoning to Riyadh of Lebanese Prime Minister Sa’d Hariri, his slapping by Heir Apparent MBS (Mohamed bin Salman), and the resignation he was dictated to announce on Saudi TV, which badly backfired, was the recent summoning of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan Niyazi and the ‘order’ to him to boycott the Islamic summit in Malaysia, or risk deportation of the four million riyal-earning Pakistani work-force, coupled with withdrawal of a few billion dollars that Saudi Arabia had deposited in the National Bank of Pakistan to help avert an economic crisis.
Of course, there have been denials by both the Saudi foreign ministry and the official circles in Islamabad of such threats, but reports in both the Pakistani and world media speak otherwise, especially since Imran Khan before his last-minute cancellation following a surprise visit to Riyadh on December 14 and meeting with MBS, was personally involved in arrangement of the Kuala Lumpur summit of 20 Muslim countries held on December 19.
Moreover, Pakistan’s Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had officially announced on Tuesday, December 17 that "Prime Minister Imran Khan cancelled his visit after concerns from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.”
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad of Malaysia had said that the summit was being held in consultation with other Muslim-majority states, particularly Pakistan and Turkey, to discuss issues facing the Muslim World.
It was also reported that the said summit offered an opportunity for Pakistan to discuss the Kashmir issue, since policymaking circles in Islamabad believe that the Saudi-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has done virtually nothing to call out India or offer support to Pakistan globally in this regard.
The Pakistani Prime Minister’s absence was conspicuous for all participants, and on Friday, December 20 on the last day of the 2-day summit, Turkey’s President Rajab Tayyeb Erdoghan, to whom Imran Khan had confided the reasons for his absence, publicly said: "Unfortunately, we see that Saudi Arabia pressures Pakistan. There are promises that the country has given to Pakistan regarding the central bank. However, more than that, there are 4 million Pakistanis working in Saudi Arabia. They (threaten by saying that they) would send (Pakistanis) back and re-employ Bangladeshi people instead.”
Irrespective of the media musings that Imran Khan failed to assuage the murderous MBS’ concerns and yielded to intense pressure to skip the Kuala Lumpur conference, it is a matter of surprise for a country of the stature of Pakistan to kowtow to spurious family fiefdom called Saudi Arabia.
Islamabad should be the least worried about the Riyals of Riyadh, and Imran Khan from the experience of his cricketing days when fair play ruled the game and brought victories to Pakistan in the international arena in the absence of any match-fixing, ought to realize that he is too great a personality than MBS.
The message should be sent to Riyadh in a loud and clear manner that the Pakistani soldiers stationed in Saudi Arabia are no slaves. Any insolent remark by MBS, should be enough for Raheel Sharif and his men to enter the royal palace and whisk away the Heir Apparent to Islamabad for some dressing down.
In this way, Pakistan would not just be proving its independence and rejection of any notion of subservience, but might be bringing down the curtain on Saudi Arabia, to the exultation of the people of Arabia, who are yearning for liberation from the tentacles of the despicable Wahhabis.
