Bogota Colombia.

In a speech in the city’s Plaza de Bolívar, to hundreds of thousands in response to Washington’s attack on the South American nation, the president commented that for some, the era of absolute monarchs has arrived, but for our America, it is the hour of freedom and revolutions.
“Mr. Trump, is not answered by kneeling, he is answered by standing firm and coming out to defend the rights of the people and democracy, and not to be ruled by tyrannies, as happened not that long ago in Colombia,” he emphasized before the multitudes of people in attendance.
Petro explained that the U.S. president does not know the history of the New Granada country and does not even know where it is located. “He attacks the Colombian leader, the one who has most opposed drug trafficking, who has wanted to build a transparent democracy of the people without mafias, who has denounced the mafiosos who sat down to make laws in Colombia and in the morning ordered massacres,”
He asserted that those who seek to antagonize Colombia and Venezuela are interested in halting progress in the fight against drug trafficking, and alluded to the trip of a group of Colombians to the U.S. to request sanctions against the nation and its president.
Petro, who was there, along with his wife and son Nicolás, included on a list of those sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department, emphasized that such attitudes are nothing more than the expression of the Colombian mafia in collusion with the extreme right in Florida.
In response to the measure, he stated that he has no money in the northern nation, that he has never done business there and is not interested in doing so.
Petro again denounced the fact that, as a result of the bombings carried out under the pretext of an alleged fight against drugs, US forces have already killed 34 people. “I ask humanity for maximum solidarity with the peoples of the Caribbean, so that they may be a space of peace, thought, and art.”
