The failure of global disarmament has created acute security imbalances, especially in West Asia, despite the commitment of the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish a Weapons of Mass Destruction-Free Zone (WMDFZ).
In contrast to Iran, which considers manufacture and use of weapons of mass destruction as ‘haraam’ or religiously forbidden, the illegitimate Zionist entity is the sole nuclear-armed power, with estimates suggesting a stockpile of over 90 nuclear warheads.
This deadly arsenal, built with the clandestine help of the US and West European regimes, is based on a nuclear triad, made up of submarine-launched cruise missiles, Jericho-series ballistic missiles, and aircraft-delivered gravity bombs.
Israel’s refusal to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the hypocrisy of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ignore Zionist lawlessness has led to a regional security imbalance.
Iran, perceiving this imbalance, calls for the nuclear disarmament of Israel but this just demand has remained unfulfilled due to the criminal support of the US for the Zionist crimes against humanity.
An undeniable proof of Iran’s peaceful nuclear projects is its cooperation with the IAEA, and strict adherence to safeguards and transparency measures that led to the signing in 2015 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The Donald Trump regime, however, breached this agreement despite the fact that it was unfair to Iran and imposed by the previous Barak Obama regime.
The US withdrawal from the nuclear accord in 2018 and re-imposition of sanctions, coupled with the refusal of the European troika of France, Germany, and Britain to honour their commitments, naturally exacerbated tensions.
The West’s victimization of Iran and the blind backing of a nuclear-armed Israel has led to the failure of global disarmament initiatives, mainly because of selective adherence to non-proliferation norms.

Moreover, the selective enforcement of disarmament norms has eroded Tehran’s trust in international institutions, especially following last June’s 12-day war launched on the Islamic Republic by Israel with the approval of the US, which also blatantly violated Iran’s sovereignty by bombing three of the civilian nuclear installations.
With the expiry on October 18 of the 10-year unjust restrictions placed on the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear activities, Iran and other world powers such as Russia and China have notified the UN and the IAEA that all sanctions, including the so-called ‘snapback’, are illegal.
To sum up, Tehran, in accordance with NPT rules, has every right to upgrade its peaceful nuclear research to any degree of uranium enrichment its various industries require, without the need of any inspectors to monitor its activities or the need for talks with the untrustworthy big powers.
