The Israeli army continues to carry out strikes against the besieged Gaza Strip in defiance of a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on Monday after the United States abstained from the vote.
Highlights
*During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 81 Palestinians and wounded 93 others, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said.
*The Israeli army bombed a house in the city of Rafah on Tuesday, killing over a dozen people and injuring more. The building was housing displaced Palestinians and among the dead are at least four children.
*At least 32,414 Palestinians have been killed and 74,787 others wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
Israel warmongering
In a statement on Twitter, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel will continue its military offensive to achieve all its war objectives, including securing the release of Israeli captives still in Gaza and fully dismantling Hamas.
China stance
China said it “welcomes” the UNSC resolution. It called for swift “action” to implement the resolution’s demand to halt fighting over the final weeks of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
“The United Nations Security Council’s resolutions are binding, and we demand that the parties fulfill their obligations under the Charter of the United Nations and take due action as required by the resolutions,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a news briefing.
“We expect countries with significant influence to play an active role in supporting the implementation of the resolution.”
China, he said, “will continue to work with all parties to bring an early end to the fighting in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian situation and promote the implementation of a two-state solution”.
