Haniyeh’s Hamas meets Islamic Jihad leader in Tehran

TEHRAN - Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas political bureau chief, has met in Tehran with Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad al-Nakhaleh.

The meeting took place on Thursday night.

Hamas said in a statement on Friday that the meeting focused on discussing the ongoing political and field developments related to Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

The delegations from both Palestinian resistance movements praised the fighters and the people of Gaza in the face of Israel’s six-month aggression.

“Furthermore, the two leaders discussed efforts to stop the aggression, emphasizing that the success of any indirect negotiations depends on four fundamental determinants: a complete halt of the aggression, full withdrawal of the occupation from the entire Gaza Strip, the return of displaced people, the entry of aid and necessities for our people and those in the Strip, along with a prisoner exchange,” the statement said, according to Press TV.

“The two movements also condemned the occupation's actions in Al-Quds and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, including assaults and violations, alongside incursions and assassinations in the West Bank,” it added.

“They considered the Palestinian people to be in an open and direct confrontation with this occupation across all Palestinian land, stressing the need for escalating resistance in all its forms across all arenas,” the statement continued.

The senior leaders of the two Palestinian movements also “praised the supportive resistance operations on the multiple fronts in Yemen, Iraq, and southern Lebanon, which confirm the unity of the resistance fronts and that the Palestinian people are not alone in confronting this occupation and those with it.”

The resistance leaders also lauded Iran for its support of the Palestinians during these hard days.

“The two leaderships expressed their appreciation to the Islamic Republic of Iran for the strategic support it provides to the resistance and the Palestinian people and its firm positions in support of their national rights,” the statement said.

The two movements condemned “the occupation’s daily massacres and barbaric aggression against our people and our family, and to intensify solidarity efforts, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.”

They also thanked the people of the world for sympathizing and aligning with the Palestinians, who have been subjected to the most heinous crimes by the Zionist regime of Israel.

“The two leaderships appreciated the actions of the peoples of the world in expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and the massive rallies in various cities and capitals around the world, which push towards the isolation of this occupation and those who support it,” it said.

The two movements also said they considered continuing to support Israel “militarily and providing political cover for its crimes constitutes participation in the ongoing crime in Gaza.”

The Palestinian resistance movement delegations affirmed their rejection of any political projects or steps that would create new realities in Gaza that are far from the will of the Palestinian people and their resistance.

“They stressed that any step must result from complete national consensus.”

Israel has achieved none of its stated goals since its unleased a savage war against the people of Gaza on October 7, 2023, following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel.

During their stay in Tehran, Haniyeh and Ziyad al-Nakhaleh held separate meetings with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

In the meeting with the Hamas political bureau chief and his accompanying team on March 26, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The historic patience of the people of Gaza in the face of the crimes and savagery of the Zionist regime, fully supported by the West, is a great phenomenon that has turned the issue of Palestine into a global priority.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate in supporting the cause of Palestine and the oppressed and resilient people of Gaza.”

In talks with Nakhaleh and his team, the Leader also said, “The peak of dignity and steadfastness demonstrated by the people of Gaza and Palestine and the failures of the Zionist regime throughout this six-month war are a divine event and phenomenon.”
