TEHRAN- A prominent Iranian official has emphasized the significance of elections in serving the people and contributing to the nation's democratic system.
Abbasali Kadkhodaei, the Head of the Constitutional Council's Research Institute, stressed that elections are not merely a means of achieving political power, but rather a platform for individuals to assume positions and responsibilities with the primary objective of serving the public good.
Addressing a gathering at Shiraz University, Kadkhodaei highlighted the distinctive features of the Islamic Republic of Iran's religious democracy compared to other political systems.
He observed that elections in other political frameworks often revolve around gaining political authority, whereas in Iran, elections serve as a foundation for individuals to dedicate themselves to the service of the people.
"Elections are one of the most significant avenues for the people to actively participate in the governance of their country," Kadkhodaei remarked. "Hence, elections transcend mere political competition and constitute a cornerstone of the Islamic system."
The official further underscored the importance of effective political parties in bolstering the electoral process. He underscored that if parties are positioned effectively in terms of cultural, structural, and legal frameworks, they can assume responsibilities in election monitoring, contributing to a more transparent and accountable democratic process.
Kadkhodaei's remarks underscore the commitment of the Iranian government to upholding the principles of democratic representation and ensuring that elections serve as a catalyst for public service and national progress.
