Jalali made the remarks in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday, November 29, which marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
“Despite the differences between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation regarding the Zionist regime, they have had close interaction to stop the crimes of the Zionists in Palestine during the course of recent events,” the ambassador said.
He pointed out that this engagement has taken place despite the fact that Russia has diplomatic relations with Israel, and that Tehran and Moscow differ in their approach to resolving the Palestinian issue.
Jalali, however, hailed Russia’s “positive stance” on the current war on Gaza and cited remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin about “injustice” against the Palestinians being the root cause of the problem.
The ambassador said Iran and Russia agree that it is the United States that, as the biggest supporter of the Israeli regime, has repeatedly blocked United Nations Security Council resolutions aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“Americans want to solve the issues on their own and do not want to use the capacities of other countries,” he added.
Since the start of the war in Gaza early in October, Jalali said, Iran and Russia have been cooperating within the framework of UN mechanisms. “The two countries have had close interactions in the UN General Assembly and currently discussions to quell the crisis in Gaza are ongoing.”
