Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Tuesday that Tehran supports Russia's proposal for formation of a cooperation mechanism among Caspian Sea littoral states.
Amirabdollahian made the remarks while addressing a foreign ministerial level meeting of Caspian Sea littoral states in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
He said that the meeting in Ashgabat would help further strengthen cooperation among the five littoral states of the Caspian Sea.
The foreign minister said that determining the seabed and sub-seabed borders of the Caspian Sea are still remaining.
Although it is more than four years that the five countries signed the legal convention of the sea, negotiations are still underway in this regard, he said.
Amirabdollahian reiterated that Iran favors collective cooperation mechanisms to maintain peace and security in the Sea which he said is of special importance for all littoral states.
He said that the areas of trade and transportation are two arms of growth in the Sea that need to be paid special attention by the five littoral states.
