Iran, Azeri presidents meet in Ashgabat

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev met and held talks on the sidelines of the Caspian Summit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Iran and Azerbaijan Presidents met and held talks on the sidelines of the sixth summit of the Caspian States in Ashgabat, according to Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC).

Prior to the meeting, President Raisi also met his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow, as well as the chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Russia's official media also announced yesterday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with his Iranian counterpart (President Raisi on the sidelines of the Caspian Summit.

Raisi was officially invited by Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimohamedow to attend the summit, where presidents of the countries surrounding the Caspian Sea will convene to discuss the legal regime of the waterbody.

During his stay in Ashgabat, he is to deliver a speech at the 6th Caspian Sea Summit and to hold talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the event.

The Azerbaijan Republic, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan are the five Caspian littoral states.

The sixth summit meeting of the Caspian Sea littoral states is underway in the Turkmen capital.
