34th Islamic Unity Conference to inaugurate in virtual meeting due to COVID-19

For the first time since the beginning of Islamic Unity Conference the 34th meeting of the annual event will inaugurate in a virtual meeting on Thursday due to the new coronavirus outbreak as 287 speakers from across the globe are expected to deliver speech in a week ending on birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The 34th meeting of Islamic Unity Conference on "Islamic Cooperation in Facing Calamities and Disasters" held by Iran's World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought will hold its opening ceremony on Thursday as the secretary general Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari has called the event as an exceptional opportunity, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

According to the secretary general 167 prominent Muslim world figures from 47 countries and 120 Iranian thinkers will deliver speech during the Islamic Unity Week, 29th October-3rd Novermber, 2020.

34th Islamic Unity Conference is scheduled to include six virtual meetings every day during the week which is, according to Hujjat-ul-Islam Shahriari, make a unique opportunity for the Muslims to stress peace, friendship, compassion and logical talks with each other.

Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in a presser held ahead of the conference called the 34th event an exceptional opportunity due to the great number of speeches to be given and also the topic of the event.

As the 34th Islamic Unity Conference has scheduled to discuss "Islamic Cooperation in Facing Calamities and Disasters" as its major topic, participants in the event will also express their views on Palestine and the issue of normalization and role of Iran's IRGC assassinated commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in unity and security of Muslim world.

The 34th Islamic Unity Conference will officially begin its work with speeches by the secretary general of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, prominent Shia jurisprudent, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, speaker of Iran's parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Mahatir Muhammad, Malaysia's former prime minister.
