TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Washington’s conspiracies and pressures have backfired thanks to the stiff resistance and perseverance of the Iranian nation.
“The US defeat in the UN Security Council is due to resistance of the Iranian nation,” Rouhani said on Wednesday, and added, “Otherwise, the enemy had tried to bring Iran to its knees two years ago.”
He went on to say that the people tolerated all difficulties but they did not surrender to the pressures and made it experience successive defeats.
In relevant remarks, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that the US president should stop listening to the novice bullies, and said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would deceive Donald Trump once again and push Washington towards isolation once again.
"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lawless bullying leaves US isolated again," Zarif wrote on his Twitter account.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined that while the US prevented a Security Council debate about its unlawful notification on Friday, members in Tuesday's meeting on the Middle East refuted the US’ attempt as null and void.
Zarif's remarks came Pompeo said on Friday that Washington delivered a letter to the UN for snapback invocation against Iran to bring back sanctions in 30 days.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Zarif said Pompeo lacks an iota of concern over violating his own country’s laws, adding that Washington intends to pour more weapons to West Asian region.
“Outlaw SecPompeo has no qualms about violating his own country's laws. Standing next to World's 1 nuclear threat, he declares his desire to flood our region with even more US weapons—all while trying to impede lawful normalization of Iran's defense cooperation with the world,” Zarif wrote on his Twitter page.
In relevant remarks, Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in a statement said the US goal to destroy the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has only ended in Washington isolation.
The Iranian permanent mission's statement came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that Washington delivered a letter to the UN for snapback invocation against Iran to bring back sanctions in 30 days.
Referring to the process of restoration of sanctions against Iran, Pompeo further claimed that "we are confident that the trigger mechanism will be implemented against Iran".
France, Germany and the United Kingdom have announced in a statement that they will not support the US in snapback invocation against Iran which is incompatible with current efforts to support Iran nuclear deal.
