Targeting Yemen heritage

Targeting Yemen Heritage Yemen, home to an untold number of archeological treasures from the ancient walled city of Shibam, nicknamed the 'Manhattan of the Desert' to the kingdom of Saba, ruled by the legendary Queen of Sheba; and the Ma'rib Dam, regarded as the eighth wonder of the ancient world.
Since the onset of the so-called Saudi-led campaign in 2015, these and many more of the country's millennia-old gems have been demolished, looted or under serious threat. In the first month of its military aggression, the Saudi-led coalition dropped bombs on the Old City of Sana'a, razing several of its blocks to the ground.
Two months, coalition bombs targeted the historic city of Zabid. And in November next year, the old city of Shibam in Hadramawt was damaged. That's while all of these three sites are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Moreover, the Marib Dam has also been bombarded repeatedly by the coalition.
The dam and the temples around are among many features included in the Marib archaeological site, which is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The attacks on Yemen's heritage seems deliberate as UNESCO provided the coalition with a no-strike list of historical sites when the military campaign began.
