IQNA – Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated his closeness to the people by personally taking part in the construction of Quba Mosque, carrying heavy stones alongside other Muslims despite the hardships of his journey from Mecca, notes an Iranian sociologist and religious expert.

Hojat-ol-Islam Alireza Qobadi highlighted the Prophet’s conduct during his stay in Quba following the Hijra from Mecca to Medina, describing it as an example of leadership through action.
After the Prophet reached Quba, his first major undertaking was the construction of a mosque. Despite having just completed the arduous journey from Mecca, he ordered that the mosque be built. After the land was acquired, the Prophet joined the people in constructing it.
Qobadi told IQNA that the Prophet’s position and status did not set him apart from the people during the work. Rather than limiting his participation to light tasks, he undertook difficult jobs, including carrying large stones, as though he regarded the work as his own responsibility.
The scholar cited a report from one of the Ansar who saw Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) carrying a large stone. The man approached him to take the stone and carry it himself, but the Prophet refused and told him, “You go yourself and carry a stone like the one I am carrying.”
According to Qobadi, the Prophet’s participation strongly encouraged the Muslims working on the mosque and demonstrated that he was a leader who took the lead in putting Islamic teachings into practice.
“Although he was a traveler and it would have been entirely reasonable for people to expect him, at most, to supervise the construction of the mosque, he did not do so,” Qobadi said. “Through such conduct, the Prophet showed that he was a leader who was at the forefront in putting Islamic teachings into practice.”
He added that the Prophet’s conduct had a profound effect on the people’s willingness to follow his example, strengthening their affection and devotion toward him while also helping the construction work progress more quickly and solidly.
Qobadi said the people themselves recognized the significance of the Prophet working alongside them, saying that if they sat while the Prophet worked, “such an act would lead us into misguidance and error.”
