Discriminatory Treatment of Religious Scholars Threatens Islamic Unity, Iranian Cleric Warns Kuwaiti Officials

In a message, Director of the Islamic Seminaries Ayatollah Alireza Arafi warned that discriminatory treatment of religious scholars could pave the way for rifts and discord among Islamic nations.

‘At a time when the Islamic world faces unprecedented challenges—stemming from the extensive and organized conspiracies of the enemies of Islam, most notably the arrogant regime of the United States and the Zionist regime—the news of unjust and ruthless verdicts issued by regional courts has deeply pained the hearts of Muslims. This is particularly true regarding the unfair ruling by the rulers of Kuwait to execute the steadfast Mujahid Hojjat-Ol-IslamSheikh Hussein al-Ma’touq—a distinguished scholar and a dedicated servant of the people of Kuwait. This development has ignited a wave of outrage and sorrow throughout the Islamic Ummah, as well as within academic centers and Islamic seminaries in Iran and across the globe,” Ayatollah Arafi said in his message.

“This action—carried out with blatant disregard for legal and humanitarian standards, as well as the exalted status of religious scholars—transcends a mere judicial ruling. It constitutes an assault on the identity and religious rights of Muslims and Shias, and represents a clear attempt to undermine the influence and dignity of Islamic scholars.”

On behalf of the Islamic seminaries, the grand sources of emulation, esteemed scholars, and affiliated institutions, he condemned this oppressive conduct and the unlawful verdict that has been issued.

“I urge the government and responsible authorities in Kuwait—guided by the principle of Islamic brotherhood—to immediately review this ruling, uphold the fundamental rights of the noble Muslim populace (particularly the Shia community of Kuwait), and respect the scholarly and religious standing of prominent figures. Such action is essential to avert this catastrophe and prevent a miscarriage of justice.”

Ayatollah Arafi added, “It is also crucial to note that any discriminatory treatment of prominent religious scholars not only violates individual and social rights but also risks fostering rifts and discord among Islamic nations—an outcome precisely sought by the enemies of Islam, and one that all Islamic governments and peoples must strive to avoid.”

He concluded by praying to the Almighty God for the awakening of Islamic governments and for the victory of the Islamic Ummah over its American-Zionist enemies.
