Eid al-Adha marks the devotion and faith of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to the command of Almighty God.
To commemorate the sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim, Muslims around the world perform Qurbani by sacrificing goats, sheep, cows, or camels. People around the world mark this day with prayers, charity, family gatherings, and festive meals, wearing new clothes and exchanging gifts with loved ones.
Eid al-Adha also comes shortly after the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
