West’s need for nuclear agreement outweighs Iran’s: Analyst

Making the remark in a tweet, Mohammad Marandi said, “Pro-western Iranian liberals are angry, because during nuclear negotiations in Vienna, I warned westerners that winter is coming.”

He added, “My truthful response to their psychological warfare. Western elites/negotiators claimed that Iran needs a deal, but that they could do without one.”

Iran signed the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with the P5+1 in July 2015, accepting to put some curbs on its peaceful nuclear program in return for the removal of the anti-Tehran sanctions.

In May 2018, however, the United States pulled out of the JCPOA and reimposed its unilateral sanctions on Iran, prompting the latter, following a year of strategic patience, to reduce some its commitments under the deal.

In April 2021, the talks on the deal’s revival began in Vienna. But no breakthrough was achieved after the latest round of talks in early August, 2022.
