About 15,000 hectares out of 30,000 hectares of the province’s gardens are located in Meshginshahr. Fifteen types of grapes are harvested in the city’s vineyards with a total area of 2,000 hectares. The apple crops of its gardens, marketed and sold under a specific brand, are used as a ceremonial fruit.
Where Qarasu and Aharchai rivers meet and flow towards Aras River, the gardens give way to paddy fields in which high quality rice is grown.
Various agricultural and horticultural crops, from pistachios to barberry, and from almonds and walnuts to rice are cultivated in the region, having a pleasant climate and a rich and fertile soil.
Head of the city’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department Imanali Imani said that Qahqaheh Castle, one of the most strategic castles of Iran in ancient times, is located in the western part of Arasbaran Protected Area.
He added that the largest number of petroglyphs of the country was discovered in the area, 40,000 of which have been registered.
“However, there are definitely more of them,” he said, noting that 280 anthropomorphic stones are located in Pirazmian archeological site.
He added that the statues don’t have mouths except one that most likely belongs to the priest of the temple. Some fossil sites were also discovered on the site.
There are 20 valleys in Gandiman Protected Area, located in the northern part of Meshginshahr, each of which is considered a unique geosite in terms of soil erosion patterns.
“Several valleys, with more than 20 small and big waterfalls, are situated near Galin Bolaghi village. Moreover, when you reach Zaviyeh Sang village, you will see a collection of natural wonders and geological phenomena,” he noted.
Imani observed that the northern slopes of Sabalan Mountain and the southern suburbs of Meshginshahr have their own special beauty.
He said Meshginshahr has more than 50 hot water springs. Some of the most acidic and iron-rich spa springs in the world with various therapeutic properties are in the area.“Meshginshahr has 16 hydrotherapy centers, each of which is fed by a separate spring,” he noted.
Meshginshahr Suspension Bridge, which is located next to the mountain residences and modern hydrotherapy centers of the city, is a well-known tourist spot in the region.
The bridge, which is 365 meters long, is located at a height of 80 meters on Khiav River and the beautiful valley of Khiav Chai Forest Park.
A collection of amusement facilities and accommodations are available in the Meshginshahr Suspension Bridge Complex.
To see the mountain residences of the region, we drove through the endless gardens, hidden springs and the tents of Shahsavan tribes towards Sabalan Mountain, whose snow-covered peak was out of the fog and clouds.
The green slopes of the mountain, with winding roads, were full of wild garlic and onions, thyme, chamomile and rapeseed.
Moeil village, located in the area, is famous for its geothermal power plant, traditional spas and waterfalls.
I met Hassan Hossein-Azari, a man from Naserabad village, in a mountain residence which is like a piece of heaven.
He showed me various parts of the beautiful residence. You can sit on the terrace of one of its cottages and watch the white peak of Sabalan Mountain and the misty peaks around it.
Instead of a cottage, you can stay in a nomadic tent, or dome-shaped stone houses built under the rocks and rest.
Hossein-Azari said that a large number of tourists from various parts of the country, especially Tehran, Ahvaz, Abadan and Khorramshahr, visit the region every year.
