Moscow hosting 16th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Committee meeting

TEHRAN - The 16th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Committee meeting kicked off in Moscow on Sunday as the working groups from the two sides started primary talks before the main event, Shana reported.

On the first day of the two-day event, the working groups of oil and gas, banking and finance, transportation, information technology, trade and investment, business groups, science and education, energy, standards, sports, customs, agriculture, and industry started their negotiations.

Attended by experts and representatives of Iranian and Russian ministries and organizations, the mentioned meetings are aimed to examine the capacities for developing relations and preparing the joint meeting’s final protocol document.

The talks held on the first day of the two countries' Joint Economic Committee meeting were at the deputy's level.

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji and Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak are going to co-chair the main event which will be held on Monday.

Several cooperation documents and Memorandums are expected to be signed in various fields at the end of the meeting.

So far, Iran and Russia’s Joint Economic Committee has held 15 meetings, in which various documents have been prepared and signed by the two sides.

The first meeting of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Committee dates back to December 1996. This meeting was the first meeting after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, when Iran's then-Minister of Economy and Finance, Morteza Mohammad Khan, and Russia's Minister of Foreign Economic Affairs, Olek Davidov, headed the delegations of the two countries in the five-day meeting.

The 15th meeting of the Joint Economic Committee of Iran and Russia was also held in Tehran and Isfahan in May 2018 under the responsibility of the Iranian Ministry of Energy.
