Serbia's Archbishop: Ties with Iran of fundamental importance to Orthodox Church

Belgrade, IRNA- The archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador in Belgrade said that strengthening relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran is of fundamental importance for the Serbian Orthodox Church.

In his meeting with Rashid Hassanpour, the Serbian Archbishop said that given the ancient history of civilization Iran, has a unique place in building and creating human civilization and "we are proud to be the guest of the embassy of the Islamic Republic today in Belgrade".  

Referring to the remarks of Iran’s ambassador on the importance of developing and promoting comprehensive cooperation between Iran and the Republic of Serbia, the archbishop noted the expansion of cooperation between Belgrade and Tehran in various fields, including culture and tourism.  

He added that today, the arrogant and oppressive powers of the world have not only endangered the physical and human security of humanity, but also seek to destroy the religious identity and spirit of the free nations of the world by imposing their ideology. Therefore, I welcome the proposal of Iran’s ambassador to convene expert meetings with the presence of representatives of the two sides to prepare the details and fulfill this proposal and announce my readiness in this regard.

Iran’s ambassador to Serbia also said that the Iranian government believes in and is determined to develop and promote comprehensive cooperation with the Republic of Serbia.

He stressed that relations between the two countries have witnessed positive and constructive changes in recent months and we hope to see better and more developments in the future. The visit of Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić to Iran is at the forefront of these developments.
