Speaking in an interview with FNA, the analyst, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions from the side of official London, said, “There is no legal procedure being carried out by the United States Department of State, to determine if the content of these websites has violated United States law.”
“According to international law, the United States must adhere to article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration, which stipulates freedom of expression”, he added.
Fars News Agency withholds the name of the analyst on his request.
Below is the full text of the interview:
Q: How do you assess US’ move to block the independent media, and its call to protect the right of freedom of expression?
A: The move made by Washington is illegal. There is no legal procedure being carried out by the United States Department of State, to determine if the content of these websites has violated United States law.
In addition, according to international law, the United States must adhere to article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration, which stipulates freedom of expression. It should be noted that most of these websites were news websites, and according to the media law, everyone has the right to freedom of the media and journalism.
Another important point is that the citizens have the right to receive and to impart and exchange information, cultural and economic news, if any environmental catastrophe occurs, etc., that their own countries are not delivering.
Therefore, this violation definitely blocks these websites from sharing their news from the field where the events take place.
Q: Among the seized websites, there are several ones belonging to religious-only TV channels. Why does the US confront such non-political media?
A: The measure of attacking non-political portals, religious and cultural websites, in my opinion is due to the fact that the United States acts without knowledge of the content of our beliefs or of Article 18 and 19 of the United Nations Charter, which establishes religious freedom.
With this two evidences, the United Nations should express that United States it is not acting in accordance with its obligations under international treaties or the United Nations charter, and should demand rectification.
Therefore, the pretexts used by the United States are unfounded and the international community is being misinformed about the real reasons behind the blocking of these websites.
The United States must respect religion, it must respect all religions, and it must respect also all international agreements regarding religions and the content they present.
Most of these websites have not shown any political perspective, but mostly religious, and were developed within the framework of the United Nations.
Q: The majority of the seized websites are from the West Asian region. Why is that the case?
A: It is clear that the United States has targeted these websites that are linked to news coming from the West Asian region. They are trying to cover up the mess they have made in this region. The destruction of a country like Iraq; what they have done in Afghanistan; the failure, their destruction, the catastrophes generated by successive invasions, as well as their support and financing of ISIS, in Syria and Iraq. Of course, the United States is not going to let Americans know what the State Department is doing and has done in this region.
Furthermore, the aforementioned websites played an important role in the recent war in Gaza and Palestine, and even in the two previous wars in Gaza and Lebanon. These websites have played a great role in showing the truth, in telling the reality from the ground, in showing the violations committed by Israel. They have shown the crimes and the hidden information that the United States do not want to reach the public opinion.
On the other hand, the Yemen news website was also blocked, due to the amount of human rights violations committed by Saudi criminals that the United States has hidden due to its support for the Saudi regime, so that the American people cannot be aware of what their government is doing, and all the crimes committed against the people of Yemen. What these media have done is nothing but showing the truth of these crimes committed by the Saudis with the support of the United States.
Basically, with this media blackout, it is not allowed to show these photos, these news and videos in the United States or in the world. Nor do they want to show the international community the work Iran is doing in the world, for peace, the truth of its nuclear project with peaceful purposes, which is supported by their country and by the United Nations. They do not want to show the world this, they want to keep lying about this and about Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.
The reality is that the region no longer wants the presence of US military bases, or international armies. The people of the region want peace; they want to live peacefully together without intervention or conflict.
