Syria Important Pillar of Resistance Front Despite Enemies’ Plots

TEHRAN (Kayhan Intl) - Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Syria, under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, has withstood all attacks and plots by its enemies and continues to be a major pillar of resistance front in the region.
"Syria is a major pillar of resistance front,” Velayati said in meeting with Syria’s new ambassador to Iran, Shafiq Dayoub, adding that cooperation between the Iranian and Syrian nations and governments is expanding on all fronts.
Velayati then conveyed the Leader’s message to the Syrian envoy, to be relayed to the country’s president, in which Ayatollah Khamenei has wished rapid recovery for President Assad who according to the latest reports has contracted coronavirus infection along with his wife.
The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted a statement by the Syrian president’s office as saying on March 8 that President Assad and his wife Asma had tested positive for coronavirus but they were both in good health.
U.S. Exit Only Way to Restore Peace in Syria
Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Majid Takht Ravanchi reminded the hard conditions of the Syrian people in the last ten years, and stressed that the only way to end to their suffering and restore peace in the region is the immediate exit of the American occupying forces from the country.
"Neither the Syrian people will accept the continued occupation of their territory or violation of their sovereignty, nor must the international community accept this, as it runs counter to the cardinal principles of international law,” Takht Ravanchi said in a statement that he read at the UN Security Council on Monday, adding, "We once again call for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces present in Syria without the permission of its government, particularly U.S. forces that continue to occupy parts of the Syrian territory.”
He condemned the illegal U.S. attack at the Syrian-Iraqi border on February 25, warning that such unlawful moves would only escalate tension in the region.
