Private sources said that the Syrian army has monitored an attempt by the militants of Jabhat al-Nusra and its allied takfiri factions to launch a surprise attack on “Aleppo-Damascus” international highway.
The sources pointed out that the Syrian army units monitored attempts to gather the armed men for organizing a sudden strike, with Turkish support, aiming at attacking the Syrian army points near Saraqib, re-accessing the Aleppo-Damascus international highway and cutting it off again, but the army units targeted the gathering of militants and thwarted their efforts.
The sources added that the Syrian army's missile weapons targeted the militant sites in Al-Fateera, Kansafra and Sufuhn in Jabal Al-Zawiya in the southern countryside of Idlib, with concentrated strikes that resulted in losses among the militants and destroyed a number of vehicles.
The army’s targeting of these sites came in response to the militants’ violations of the ceasefire and targeting with shells the village of "Beit Hasanu" in Al-Ghab Plain, northwest of Hama, resulting in material damages only.
Since last March, the Syrian army has succeeded in controlling large areas in the western countryside of Aleppo, reaching the southern countryside of Idlib, and kept the militants away from the areas surrounding "Aleppo-Damascus" international highway to open it safely for travelers. After that, "Moscow" agreement was signed between Russia and Turkey, which stipulated a cease-fire, the conduct of joint patrols on the international "Aleppo-Lattakia" road and the expulsion of the militants from its surroundings in preparation for opening it, but the Turkish side did not comply with the terms of the agreement.
