Iran’s Embassy in Kuwait has reacted to recent remarks by the US special representative for Iran about the transfer of new coronavirus infection to regional states from the Islamic Republic, noting that American officials are insulting the intelligence of the regional people through their Iranophobic policies.
On a tour of regional countries, including Qatar and Kuwait, Brian Hook had alleged that the Islamic Republic exported the novel virus to littoral Persian Gulf countries.
Also recently, Kuwait began allowing its citizens and residents to travel to and from the Arab country, but has barred those trying to reach there from seven states, including Iran.
“We advise Hook not to wade into such an argument," the Embassy said, adding that he had better compare the large number of the coronavirus-infected people who have traveled to Kuwait from the United States to the number of the infected people who have traveled there from Iran.
“Coming up with this style of Iranophobia amounts to an insult to the intelligence of the regional people and the understanding Kuwaiti nation,” the diplomatic mission added.
It also reminded that the new highly-infectious virus was a global phenomenon that has entangled the entire world alike and did not discriminate among countries.
The Embassy, meanwhile, regretted that Hook’s tour of the region that began after a visit to Tunisia has sought to encourage the countries of the region towards non-commitment to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.
The resolution endorses a 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Under the JCPOA, an embargo on sales of conventional weapons to Iran will expire on October 18.
The US, however, has not only violated the resolution by leaving the JCPOA, but is also trying to prevent the embargo’s expiration despite not being a signatory to the nuclear deal anymore.
While in Qatar, Hook alleged, “No one believes that Iran should be able to freely buy and sell conventional weapons such as fighter jets ... and various kinds of missiles.” He went on to claim that the prospect of the embargo’s end would contribute to regional instability.
The Iranian Embassy said, “Before starting to be [supposedly] sympathetic towards the people of the region, the US had better be concerned about its own citizens, especially the people of color.”
“Those who are not merciful towards their own people, would definitely not have mercy on others either,” the mission concluded.
Hook’s remarks came amid Washington’s age-old generous sales of weapons, including precision ammunition, to its regional allies. The Israeli regime and Saudi Arabia rank among the biggest recipients of the weapons, despite their indiscriminate bloodshed of civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories and Yemen, respectively.
