Whatever the origin of the word "thug” or its etymology, its current usage for a ruffian, bully, gangster, terrorist, murderer, and vandal, points to the behaviour of not just the roguish president of the US but the entire administration of Donald Trump.
From eastern Asia to southern Africa, including the so-called Middle East, as well as throughout the US itself, the word has come to identify American officials because of their criminal characteristics and inhuman behaviour.
What the Iranians, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Arabs, the Turks, the Chinese, the Koreans, the Latin Americans, and even many Europeans, have long been calling US officials, is now making regular headlines in the mainstream western media, and has become a popular term amongst the Africans to describe the lawlessness of Trump’s team.
Perhaps, the brutal killing of Afro-American citizen, George Floyd, through the now infamous knee-neck pressure tactics by white police officers in Minneapolis last May, may have popularized the word "thug” for an apt description of US officials worldwide.
Recently, Zimbabwe’s ruling African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) has called the US ambassador to Harare a "thug” and charged him with funding anti-government protests planned in August.
Patrick Chinamasa, a spokesman for ZANU-PF, told reporters that US Ambassador Brian Nichols was involved in subversive activities to topple President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
"Diplomats should not behave like thugs, and Brian Nichols is a thug,” he said, adding: "If he continues engaging in acts of mobilising and funding disturbances, training fighters, and coordinating violence, our leadership will not hesitate to give him marching orders.”
Last month, Nichols was summoned to Zimbabwe’s foreign ministry and sounded warning after a senior White House official alleged that the government in Harare was exploiting the nationwide protests in the US following Floyd’s brutal killing, to interfere in US affairs.
A lousy accusation indeed from the world’s meddler-in-chief which after decades of thuggish behaviour in the affairs of other countries, is now blatantly bludgeoning black people to death through use of fully-armed federal forces.
Trump’s uniformed thugs, as the events of the past few weeks in Portland show, are kidnapping protesters, stuffing them in unidentified vans, taking them to unknown locations without charges and against wishes of the local law authorities to beat, torture, and imprison them.
These inhuman tactics widely practiced by CENTCOM terrorists in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and other places, to torture and kill tens of thousands of innocent people, have drawn strong reaction from the US media itself.
The other day, columnist Jesse Jackson’s article carried the title: "We don’t need Trump’s thugs in Chicago”.
Dr. Tom H. Hastings, the Director for PeaceVoice, titled his article on the current nationwide protests, in response to Trump’s threat to use more force against unarmed demonstrators: "The real looters and thugs are in the White House and Senate.”
A statement recently released by 15 distinguished interdenominational religious leaders in Chicago, including ministers, priests, and rabbis, said: "Hitler had his Brown shirts and Mussolini had his Black shirts, now Donald Trump has his camouflage shirts.”
Mike Causey, a senior correspondent for Federal News Network summed up the state of affairs in the US as follows: "Two decades ago, it was fashionable for some GOP politicians to refer to federal agents as "thugs” or the American version of the Nazi Gestapo. Now it is Democratic elected officials, mayors, lieutenant governors and members of the House who are calling federal agents in Oregon and elsewhere jack-booted thugs.”
All this means, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the people of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Arabia, Bahrain, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, have every right to confront US thugs, and to coordinate moves for the expulsion of all CENTCOM terrorists from the region.
