The Afghan people, whatever their ethnicity, religious affiliations, or political tendencies, have their roots in Iranian history, culture, and geography, which means the Islamic Republic cannot be indifferent to the peace, stability, security, and development of Afghanistan – a country born exactly 253 years ago in July 1747 when a few years after the death of Nader Shah Afshar, his Pakhtoun general, Ahmad Khan Durrani, declared himself king in Qandahar of a new country by uniting the Persian Empire’s Pashto-speaking parts with those of the Subcontinent’s Mughal Empire.
In the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, the British colonialists weakened both Afghanistan and Iran, but once the Islamic Republic was founded in 1979 by ousting Britain’s imperialist heir, the US, millions of Afghans crossed the Iranian borders to seek refuge from the Soviet occupation of their country.
The Islamic Republic, which strongly opposed the Soviet Union’s takeover of its eastern neighbour, spared no efforts in providing support to the various Afghan mujahideen groups, some of whom unfortunately allowed themselves to be tricked by the Americans and turned into terrorists through the influx of Saudi money and stone-age takfiri ideology.
Iran, nonetheless, continued to stand firmly beside the Afghan Muslims during the dark days of the rule of Mullah Omar whose agents unmanly slaughtered at least a dozen Iranian officials including an IRNA correspondent, by violating the diplomatic immunity of the Mazar-e Sharif consulate in 1998.
When the Americans invaded Afghanistan on 7th October 2001, Tehran firmly opposed the new occupiers, and for almost the past two decades, it has been demanding their withdrawal, along with the end of terrorism and poppy proliferation, while working closely with the elected governments in Kabul for the peace, stability, welfare, and development of the brotherly Afghan people.
To be brief, Iran views the security of Afghanistan as its own, yet despite this clear track record of the Islamic Republic, an Afghan turncoat who shamelessly serves American interests in the region, including against his own native country, has alleged that Tehran "has not been as supportive as it should be in the effort to get to intra-Afghan negotiations and an Afghan settlement largely due to our (the US’) relations with them.”
Zalmay Khalilzad, who has been sent by the US to Kabul as chief negotiator with the Taliban, should first and foremost know that the Islamic Republic doesn’t think Washington is pursuing peace and stability in Afghanistan.
On the country the US wants to keep Afghanistan in perpetual turmoil by pitting the various Afghan factions, including the Taliban, against each other, so as to be in permanent control of this strategic Muslim land that shares borders with China, which Washington sees as its main rival.
Unlike the Americans, Iran sincerely strives for peace, a fact that is well known in the official circles in Kabul, as well as amongst the opposing groups, including the dastardly takfiri terrorists who of late have infiltrated Afghanistan with the active support of the US and are murdering innocent people.
To quote the Iranian Embassy’s statement in Kabul released on Saturday: "The Islamic Republic’s unchanging policy is to support the establishment of peace that is based on the outcomes of intra-Afghan negotiations, which are owned and led by Afghans themselves.”
In other words, the people of Afghanistan neither have any trust in the US nor in Zalmay Khalilzad the turncoat Pakhtoun, who while serving as the American ambassador in Kabul (2003-05), was notorious for his open support for the American occupiers of his homeland.
Khalilzad, whom the Americans view as a pet poodle and had placed him in Baghdad in 2005 as their ambassador, fully supports US state terrorism throughout West Asia, including against Iran.
So unprincipled is he that way back in 1993 in a published policy paper, he had advocated "trade sanctions” against North Korea, along with "enhancing of US-South Korean military readiness for direct military attacks on Pyongyang”.
No wonder, his two non-Muslim sons, Alexander and Maximilian, have such a low regard of their unprincipled and turncoat father, that they have taken their Christian mother’s surname "Benard”, rather than "Khalilzad”.
