Afghanistan’s Security of Paramount Importance to Iran

By: Kayhan Int’l

The situation in American-occupied Afghanistan is of paramount importance to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a neighbour sharing age-old religious, cultural, lingual, political, social, economic, and other ties.
In other words, Tehran, which strongly deplores the current wave of racism in the US and fully supports the birthrights of the Afro-Americans and other so-called ‘colored’ people, cannot close its eyes to Washington’s unabated crimes nearer at home across its eastern borders against the brotherly people of Afghanistan.
The latest quarterly report on Afghanistan released by the UN Secretary General as per General Assembly Resolution 68/11 and Security Council Resolution 2489 is itself a proof of the fact that our eastern neighbour is the victim of the greed of world powers to keep the country in perpetual turmoil.
The country which has not seen stability since the coup that toppled President Daud Khan in April 1978, followed in December 1979 by the 10-year Soviet communist occupation, is now in its 19th year of the American occupation that shows no signs of ending, despite the unsubstantiated claims of the reduction of American occupation troops to just over 8,000.
Unfortunately, the UN Secretary General’s report is vague as usual and does not demand the immediate and complete withdrawal of all US and NATO troops.
It ignores the unending plight of the Afghan Muslim people as a result of the crimes of the occupiers, their nurturing of terrorist groups, their proliferation of poppy cultivation, and their seditious moves to drive a wedge between the Afghan and Iranian Muslims through fake news and fabricated reports – a policy that the Americans follow in Iraq as well.
The report claims the United Nations is active in Afghanistan in the political, humanitarian, development and human rights fields, based on what it calls the peace process initiated by the United States of America with the Taliban.
Such a clause itself is an undeniable indication that the World Body is neither independent nor impartial. It merely does the bidding of the US, as is the case with several of its affiliates, including the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which recently heaped lies against Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
If the UN is a real representative body of world nations then it should stop kowtowing to the US and start in earnest its cooperation with member states. It should not just help occupied nations, such as Afghanistan, to throw the yoke of foreign occupation, but also assist them in the campaign against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the fight against poverty, and the efforts to ensure the vital issues of food, social security, and welfare.
In view of these facts, it is the duty of neighbouring countries to help the Afghan people stand on their feet.
Iran, which shares historical ties with the people of Afghanistan – as well as that of Iraq and other neighbouring nations – will continue to spare no efforts to assist them, with full determination to defeat the divisive plots of the American occupiers, whose crimes against humanity have been exposed for the whole world, as a result of the current waves of atrocities in the US against the Afro-American citizens.
