In the US and in several European states, if there are mass rallies for the past month against ethnic discrimination and social injustice at the hands of the white supremacist systems of government following the brutal police killing of Afro-American citizen George Floyd in Minneapolis, in the so-called ‘Dark Continent’ in its most populated country, Nigeria, peaceful protests have continued for the past five years against religious discrimination and of course, social injustice.
If the slogans and the placards reading "Black Lives Matter” in protest to the sporadic killings of Christian citizens of color by the white-skinned US Christians have caught the attention of the international media, these same media horns have not much focused on the organized killing of black Nigerian Shi’a Muslims by the Nigerian regime of the same dark colour which also claims to be Muslim.
Why? The answer is obvious. President General Muhamadu Buhari happens to be a loyal servant of not just the US, but of the Wahhabi regime of Riyadh and the Zionist regime of Occupied Palestine.
In the eyes of the western media, Buhari is doing a great service to imperialist interests by keeping in detention without trial since 2015 the Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, whose only fault is that he studied in Iran, was impressed by the dynamic personality of the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA), and after diligent research decided that oil-rich and resource-filled Nigeria will be able to throw off the western-Israeli yoke if the people turn to the liberating ideology of the school of jurisprudence of the Ahl al-Bayt or Blessed Household of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA).
So there is no international outcry against the dictatorial policies of Buhari who is allowed to violate the Nigerian constitution by refusing to release the revered Sheikh and his wife despite the verdict of the Supreme Federal Court of the country for their release pending since 2016 amid growing calls from even prominent non-Muslim Nigerians demanding his freedom.
Moreover, unlike his bigoted boss Donald Trump who often faces constitutional restrictions to white supremacist policies and is widely criticized by the opposition, Buhari enjoys the dictatorial freedom of the Saudi clan in oppressing the rights and just demands of the currently 14-million plus constantly growing population of Nigerian Shi’a Muslims, who like the Palestinians are victimized in their own homeland.
Meanwhile, the IMN remains far from subdued. It is determined to regain the birthrights of Shi’a Muslim citizens, who make up a quarter of Nigeria’s Muslim population, even if the regime in the manner of the Zionists continues with its atrocities while turning a blind eye to the terrorism of the takfiri outfit Boko Haram.
Last Friday, IMN held its latest peaceful protest march in Kaduna, demanding unconditional release of their detained leader from unjust and unconstitutional detention.
Sheikh Aliyu Tirmizi drew attention to the deteriorating health of the Sheikh Zalzaky and his wife, and said: "In the aftermath of Zaria genocide carried out by the Nigerian military in December 2015 we have been calling on all citizens to uphold the dictum that injustice to one is injustice to all, but to no avail.”
He also said: "Islam abhors injustice, and enjoins Muslims to express disdain to injustice and the unjust whoever they are. Indeed history is full of instances when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) assisted the victims of injustice in upholding their rights. This explains why for the past five years we have been explaining how this Buhari regime has trampled upon the rights of Sheikh Zakzaky and his followers.”
Previous peaceful protests by IMN have ended in bloodshed, but the latest incident passed without any brutal reaction from the Nigerian regime.
This augurs well for Nigeria, and the law-abiding Shi’a Muslims are confident of soon forcing the regime to release the ailing Sheikh to avoid a national catastrophe, on a greater scale than the US, in case of any danger to his life.
