Emile Lahoud
Referring to the long-standing US involvement in his country, the former Lebanese president said it was the United States and Israel that assassinated former Prime Minister Rafic al-Hariri at the hands of the Takfiris.
NOURNEWS- Former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud (November 24, 1998 to November 23, 2007) told Al-Mayadin that the United States has long been involved in Lebanese affairs and that it is the Lebanese army that has prevented foreign plots to destroy the country.
The former Lebanese president stressed the Zionist regime's threats against Lebanon and US interference in its internal affairs. "He did, and I opposed it."
"Due to the resistance in Lebanon and the defeat of Israel, Tel Aviv wants to destroy our country, but the Lebanese army is patriotic and we must be careful to stay that way," Lahud said.
"Former Prime Minister Rafic al-Hariri brought money to Lebanon and bought politicians," he said.
"The United States and Israel have used the Takfiris to assassinate Rafic al-Hariri and destroy Syria," Lahoud added.
"Diab" is not afraid of fighting corruption
"This is the first time since Lebanon's independence that an economic plan has been put in place," the former Lebanese president said in a statement. "The country is developing."
"Some parties are trying to intimidate Hassan Diab (in opening corruption cases), but they will fail," Lahoud said.
According to Lahoud, if the prime minister decides to stand up to these parties, it will be impossible to overthrow the Diab government, and he will be able to do so, because he is a worthy person.
"I tell Diab to stand up for his position because he can do it, and I tell him to return the stolen money and not be afraid," the former Lebanese president stressed.
"Some officials stole people's deposits in banks, but people can't keep quiet because they are hungry, and diabetes can make a difference, especially now because people are aware of everything," Lahud said of Lebanon's economic situation.
The former Lebanese president added, "Financial liquidity in the country will begin with the return of the looted funds. Lahoud also spoke of being a former Lebanese president who could not withdraw his money from a bank deposit." .
Lahud accused some Lebanese politicians of behaving like the mafia, adding: "They are at war with each other, but they share the spoils, because they are all thieves, they have each other's air and they protect each other."
The Lebanese government on Thursday approved an economic rescue plan to tackle the country's deteriorating economic situation, with President Michel Aoun describing the day as a historic day for Lebanon.
In recent days, various parts of Lebanon have witnessed protests against the deteriorating economic situation of the country and the devaluation of its currency, which in some areas led to clashes with the army.
