Extremist Militants Destroy One of the Biggest Power Stations in the Center of Syria

Zayzun Hama 04015
On Wednesday, extremist militants destroyed the cooling unit of the thermal power station of Zayzun in Hama western countryside, one of the biggest and most important power stations in Syria.
Private sources in Hama countryside reported that the militants who destroyed the cooling unit belong to the faction of Turkistan Islamic Party, one of the most dangerous extremist armed factions in Syria. The militants had earlier dismantled and stolen most parts below the cooling units before blasting big amounts of explosives at the sight of the locals living in the vicinity of the power station, which razed the system to the ground.
The sources reported the locals saying the Turkistani militants had rented the tower of Zayzun station to a dealer close to their leaders in return for a huge amount of money months ago. According to Hama activists, the militants had always dismantled the station and turbines to be moved in trucks to Turkey where they are sold.
Destroying Zayzun power station is one of a series of criminal acts of the armed groups against the infrastructure. Nusra Front, which is enlisted on the designated terrorist organizations, had earlier dismantled the water treatment station in Taoum in Idlib countryside as well as al-Qasatel to be smuggled abroad or sold on the black market within areas under their control.
Zayzun Power Station is one of the most important stations in Syria with three gas generators, each is 128 MW, with a total of 384 MW at full power operating. The station turbines can also work with different kinds of oil (diesel, or fuel) or gas.
