The Quran and the Islamic Revolution (3)

If we want to compare the performance of different organizations in Iran with those of the past, spectacular growth has been made in many domains. No doubt, one of the most important and valuable achievements of the Islamic Revolution is the change of attitudes and approaches which have taken place in various spheres especially the media.
The media is a very powerful factor which was previously referred to as the tool of power, but today the media alone has turned into an axis of power. Some specialists believe that the impact of media in any society depends on the media literacy of the community and the will of the people. But, the developments of the past decades prove that media can mould the mind of people and insinuate beliefs and concepts in their mind to their own benefit.
Changing of vision has been an important cultural achievement of the Islamic Revolution. As for media, launching of value-oriented networks such as the "Radio Quran" is an example in this regard. The nationwide Radio Quran started its work on February 22, 1984 in the presence of then president and current leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei. After several phases, the network became a round-the-clock independent radio network on December 9, 1997.
Radio Quran is entirely based on the Islamic Revolution. This radio was set up in line with the goals and ideals of the revolution for the development and promotion of Quranic teachings in the society. Considering the fact that the Quran is the book of life, morality and guidance and contains every need of mankind and society, the policy of Radio Quran was focused on the application of the divine verses of the Quran and conveying them to different strata in the society.
The programs of Radio Quran try to concentrate on the Quranic way of living with respect to the meaning and purport of the verses of the Quran, so that the people take this divine scripture practically and mould their lifestyle and behavior on the basis of its guidelines. In view of this, the innovative programs of the staff of Radio Quran have attracted a considerable number of listeners from various walks of life.
With the help and grace of God and the efforts of those in charge, Radio Quran has been one of the most successful national networks in the past years in terms of attracting the audience and giving them motives to march in the path of lofty goals.
The former manager of the TV and Radio Quran and Ma'aref network, Mohammad Hussein Mohammadzadeh, pointed that Radio Quran is the first media achievement after the victory of the Islamic revolution. He added, "In 1984, the first network which was set up after the revolution was Radio Quran and this indicates the importance of the noble Quran in the Islamic Republic system. Shortly after this, Radio Ma'aref was born in the 1990s and in recent years we witnessed the establishment of Quran and Ma'aref network."
For your information dear listeners, Ma'aref means the teachings of the Prophet of Islam and his infallible household and successors, namely Imam Ali, Lady Fatemah, Imam Hassan, Imam Hussein and 9 Imams of his progeny (Bleassings of God upon them).
The program "Isra" is one of the successful programs of Quran and Ma'aref network which tries to open up a clear horizon through recognition of bright talents in the field of recitation of the Quran and to introduce them in the form of contests. The program "Isra" gave teenagers throughout the country a chance to test their voice and tone in the presence of the prominent teachers and experts of the Quran.
In general, we can say that the IRIB started its activity in propagating the Quran and Quranic activities right from the first decade after the victory of the Islamic Revolution by foundation of Radio Quran. This trend was continued in the second decade by setting up Radio Ma'araf. Among the major moves in this decade was the formation of Quran Supreme Council at IRIB which had been recommended by the leader. The setup of Quran and Ma'aref network and creation of training groups in various radio-TV networks were among the activities in the third decade after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Launching of Ma'aref Radio in English language in 2007 was in continuation of these achievements. The establishment of Radio Telavat and Radio Tartil which are active in Ramadan are among the events of the fourth decade after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Telavat and Tartil are two kinds of recitation of the Quran that are mainly focused on the speed with which the Quran is read.
Another important event in the field of the Quran took place in the fourth decade after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, namely, digitization of the Quranic audio and video works. As the Quranic products are not time-bound they can be repeated several times.
The largest archive of audio works contained 20,000 pieces of recitation on Radio Quran. It is also a huge bank of 25,000 audio and video pieces which have been broadcast or produced in the entire Quran network. It is the largest Quranic heritage of the Islamic world. Collection of these Quranic pieces can be considered the most important achievement of IRIB in the domain of publication and explication of the Quranic teachings. Providing over 45,000 audio and video files as the largest Quranic legacy of the Muslim world, broadcasting thousands of hours of programs in different fields of the Quran, exegesis of the Quran, information dissemination, competitions, circles are among other services of the IRIB during 40 years of the life of the Islamic Revolution.
