Top Iranian Banker in Russia for BRICS Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The governor of the Central Bank of Iran has traveled to Moscow to attend a meeting of BRICS and hold talks with Russian officials.

 Mohammad Reza Farzin is in Russia to take part in the 2nd Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors in Moscow.

He is also going to hold negotiations with Russian officials and a number of his foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the event.

The Central Bank of Iran has launched initiatives in accordance with Tehran’s economic diplomacy to enhance monetary and banking cooperation with the neighbors and the international economic organizations.

The CBI chief’s visit to Russia is seen as a prelude to a landmark visit that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will be paying to Kazan for the 2024 BRICS Summit on October 22-24.

It will be the first summit of BRICS members after the expansion of the intergovernmental organization.

Russia has taken over the rotating presidency of BRICS this year.

Iran, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia were the five new members that formally became full-fledged members of BRICS at the beginning of 2024.

BRICS was founded in 2006 and initially included Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa joined the intergovernmental organization in 2011.
