Implications of UN Passing Resolution against the Z-i'-n-ist Regime

Strategic Council Online—Interview: An expert on West Asian issues said: Recently, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution supported by the majority of its members, calling for the end of the occupation of Palestinian territories within the next twelve months. This resolution was approved with 124 votes in favor, 14 against, and 43 other countries abstaining. In this resolution, the Israeli regime is asked to pay compensation for the damage and suffering inflicted on the Palestinian people during the occupation.

.In an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Jafar Qanadbashi stated: “The approval of this resolution in the United Nations General Assembly means the loss of all the achievements the Zionist regime has made in recent years for the annexation of the West Bank, and it also means the loss of all its attempts over the past four decades to oblige and annex the Golan Heights to the occupied Palestinian territories.

He added: “In fact, this resolution, which is considered a great success for the Palestinians, especially those living in the West Bank and Golan Heights, was compiled and approved based on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. This resolution not only considers the lands occupied by the Zionist regime in 1967 as an occupation but also emphasizes the necessity of the withdrawal of the Zionist regime from these lands.

Qanadbashi emphasized: “Of course, according to the many previous resolutions of the UN Security Council, emphasis has been made time and again that they are occupied lands.

Accordingly, in 2005, the Zionist regime was forced to withdraw from Gaza but occupied the Golan region, and even the parliament or Knesset of the Zionist regime recognized the Golan as a part of occupied Palestine.

This expert on West Asian issues continued: “However, regarding the issue of the West Bank, the unlawful actions of the Zionist regime continue to integrate this large part of the occupied land that has been occupied since 1967.”

He added: “In addition to practically occupying the fields and green areas of Western Karama, the Zionist regime has also built various settlements in the most desirable parts of this region. Also, this regime is trying to implement, from a political point of view, the annexation of the West Bank to the set of territories of 1948, that is, occupied Palestine. Of course, it has not achieved anything from a political point of view. However, the Zionist regime is still trying to completely take over this part and annex it to the territory of occupied Palestine, i.e., the territories of 1948.

Qanadbashi pointed out that Netanyahu’s hardline government and Benguir personally believe that this plan should be implemented quickly.  He continued: “One can even say that one of the main factors in launching Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was the Zionist regime’s actions for integration. He explained that before Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, Hamas announced that if the repressive policies in the West Bank and the policies of occupying the territories of this region, as well as the policies related to repression and killing, continue, they would have to hit the West Bank to help their Palestinians.”

The expert on West Asian issues emphasized: “Even though the Zionist regime suffered blows in the Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, the policy of repression continued in the Western Channel. Therefore, today, when 124 countries emphasize that the Zionist regime must withdraw from this region, it means the loss of the achievements this regime made, both politically under the name of the annexation plan of the West Bank and from the military point of view, for the annexation of this part.”

According to Qanadbashi, this resolution is considered a fundamental blow to the dignity of Benjamin Netanyahu and the general strategy of this regime under the title “from the Nile to the Euphrates.” Also, the resolution mentioned above condemns all the policies the Zionist regime is implementing in the West Bank and the killings it has committed.

He added, “This resolution publicly emphasizes the UN Security Council’s past resolutions and the Hague Court’s advisory opinion. In addition, this resolution exposes the face of the Zionist regime to the world as an occupier, documented by the judgment of the international court and previous resolutions, and is considered a very important blow to the dignity of this regime.”

The expert on West Asian issues explained that this incident is very important; in other words, from the legal point of view, this resolution was approved with 124 votes in favor of ending the occupation of the West Bank and the Golan, which not only portrays the Zionist regime as illegitimate but also depicts any move in favor of the West Bank and the end of the occupation and repression in this region as legitimate action.

Finally, he said: “According to the UN Charter, all countries must help to end the occupation of a territory under occupation.” From this perspective, this resolution is considered an important blow to the Zionist regime.”
