Even some non-NATO members were invited. One of the regular attendees at all western meetings in recent years has been the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Others in attendance were leaders of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and the European Union.
As can be seen from its membership list, it is a military club of white men (and a few women). Turkiye is the odd man out. It was roped in at NATO’s founding in 1949 because it was seen as a front-line state against the Soviet Union.
If a shooting war had broken out between NATO and the Soviet Union, Turkiye would have borne the brunt of Soviet attacks to defend Europe from which it has been pointedly excluded. For decades, Turkiye has tried to join the European Union (EU) but its leaders were told in no uncertain terms that they are not European because they are neither ‘white’ nor Christian. Turkish soldiers are good enough to die in defence of Europe but not white enough to join it.
NATO’s other anomaly is that Mexico is not a member of the military alliance. It matters not that it is also on the Atlantic coast. Mexicans simply don’t cut it because of their skin colour.
Yet, NATO troops have been used to attack and destroy such countries as Afghanistan and Iraq. Neither is on the Atlantic shore. Afghanistan is landlocked. Both countries were attacked and destroyed on a pack of lies.
Far from being a defence alliance, it is militaristic in nature and serves the interests of the Washington war-worlds. Creating instability and waging wars are its favourite ploys despite claiming to adhere to international law and the UN Charter.
The communique issued on July 10 reflected the hypocrisy and cynicism of the military alliance. It claimed: “We are bound together by shared values: individual liberty, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. We adhere to international law and to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and are committed to upholding the rules-based international order.”
If so, one is forced to ask: why was there no mention of zionist Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza? The zionist barbarians are targeting Palestinian children, women and the elderly. They have destroyed almost all hospitals and are even bombing what are referred to as “safe zones”. The zionists are preventing food, water and medicine to be delivered to Gaza. They are being starved to death.
Far from condemning such barbarism, almost every NATO member is complicit in zionist war crimes. Some, like the US, Britain and Germany cannot send enough weapons to zionist mass murderers. So, NATO can spare us their hypocritical ranting about the UN Charter and upholding “the ruled-based order based on international law”.
There was much chest-thumping about “defending one another” but there were also moments of comic relief. US President Joe Biden was at his deranged best. He introduced the Ukrainian comedian (aka president) Zelenskyy as ‘President Putin’.
Both before and during the two-day NATO meeting, Biden continued to make gaffes. While publicly, it was all smiles and handshakes, in private, there was reportedly much concern expressed about Biden’s ability to lead the alliance. Mercifully, Biden announced on July 21 that was ending his bid to seek re-election.
The NATO press release said: “Our commitment to defend one another and every inch of Allied territory at all times, as enshrined in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, is iron-clad. We will continue to ensure our collective defence against all threats and from all directions, based on a 360-degree approach, to fulfil NATO’s three core tasks of deterrence and defence, crisis prevention and management, and cooperative security.”
The emphasis on “defending” Ukraine—which is not a NATO member—and demonizing Russia exposed the main purpose of the summit. It is not a defence alliance; it is a militaristic alliance whose primary purpose is to instigate war.
It “announced a Pledge of Long-Term Security Assistance for Ukraine for the provision of military equipment, assistance, and training to support Ukraine in building a force capable of defeating Russian aggression. Through proportional contributions, Allies intend to provide a minimum baseline funding of €40 billion within the next year, and to provide sustainable levels of security assistance for Ukraine to prevail.
“Russia bears sole responsibility for its war of aggression against Ukraine, a blatant violation of international law, including the UN Charter. There can be no impunity for Russian forces’ and officials’ abuses and violations of human rights, war crimes, and other violations of international law. Russia is responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians and has caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. We condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s horrific attacks on the Ukrainian people, including on hospitals, on 8 July. Russia must immediately stop this war and completely and unconditionally withdraw all of its forces from Ukraine in line with UN General Assembly resolutions. We will never recognise Russia’s illegal annexations of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea…”
Anybody even remotely familiar with global events would immediately see NATO hypocrisy. While thumping their collective chests about Russia’s “aggression” in Ukraine, there was not even a whisper about zionist Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. Instead, almost every NATO member, barring a few minor exceptions—Hungary, for instance—cannot send enough weapons to the zionist war criminals. They even provide excuses for zionist war crimes.
Opening their big guns against Moscow, the NATO press release said: “Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has shattered peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area and gravely undermined global security. Russia remains the most significant and direct threat to Allies’ security.” Did the US-instigated coup in February 2014, led the neo-con Victoria Nuland against a democratically elected president of Ukraine have nothing to do with it?
Regarding terrorism—a phenomenon created by the collective west to serve their nefarious agenda—they called it “the most direct asymmetric threat to the security of our citizens and to international peace and prosperity. The threats we face are global and interconnected.”
If anybody still harbours any illusions about the militaristic nature of NATO, consider this from its press release: “Investing in our Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear defence capabilities required to effectively operate in all environments.” These are weapons of mass destruction.
The British and Americans are notorious for using them against defenceless civilian populations in West Asia and Japan. This month (August) will mark 79 years of America’s dropping of atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The horrors perpetrated by those criminal acts have not dissipated.
The US also used depleted uranium shells in its genocidal was on Iraq in January 1991. The horrific impact of chemical weapons that the Iraqi regime of Saddam Husain used against Iran from September 1983 to 1988 is well-documented. For the record, these were provided to Iraq by the US, Britain and Germany.
Despite such evidence, NATO regimes are still calling for investing more money in producing these weapons of mass destruction. NATO poses a clear and present danger to global peace and security. It should be disbanded immediately.
