TEHRAN- The spokesperson for the Iranian Judiciary has announced that the Islamic Republic is actively seeking justice for the assassination of Hamas's political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran through international legal avenues.
Asghar Jahangir stated on Tuesday that the Judiciary promptly initiated a case following Haniyeh's assassination in an Israeli attack on July 31.
He underscored that both the domestic and international aspects of this crime, which he denounced as a clear instance of state terrorism, are under comprehensive investigation.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has pledged to “harsh response” to the Israeli regime for this audacious act of violence on Iranian territory.
Jahangir emphasized that Iran's military response does not diminish the importance of addressing the issue through appropriate legal frameworks at the international level.
He mentioned that relevant bodies, especially within the Foreign Ministry and judiciary, are actively involved in international initiatives concerning the case.
According to Jahangir, these efforts resulted in an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council earlier this month; however, he expressed skepticism regarding the UNSC's effectiveness in this situation.
Ismael Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred when their residence in Tehran was attacked on July 31, shortly after they attended Pezeshkian’s inauguration ceremony.
