An Analysis of the Proposed Peace Plans for Ceasefire in Gaza

Strategic Council Online – Interview: An expert on international issues said: The plans proposed by some Arab governments and the United States for a ceasefire in Gaza and the end of the war are not operational, and rather than looking at solving the crisis in Gaza and Rafah, these countries are after their own national interests.

Heshmatollah Falahat Pisheh, in an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations about the meeting of foreign ministers of five Arab countries regarding Gaza and Joe Biden’s proposal for a cease-fire, said: In fact, Benjamin Netanyahu’s goal is to continue the war until Donald Trump takes office. Considering that Trump fully supported the Israeli regime during his presidency and made various plans to normalize Arab countries’ relations with the Israeli regime or the capital city of Bait ul-Moqadas, Netanyahu is trying to somehow prolong the situation until Trump’s return to the White House.

He continued: “Trump has continued and will continue to support the extremists in the Israeli regime in any situation, and even today, the policy of the extremists in this regime and Netanyahu himself is to follow this trend.” However, Biden does not support Netanyahu as much as he should.

This former member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) pointed out: Apart from the rhetoric that is going on between the United States and the Israeli regime regarding the ceasefire and allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, Netanyahu, and his government, in line with the plan presented by Joe Biden three months ago,  the Zionist regime should not launch full-scale military attacks, but attacks in a point-by-point manner. During this period, although the Israeli regime does not attack like in the first days of the war, it does not stop its attacks and does not allow aid and ceasefire appropriately. In fact, they try to continue their attacks with less speed and intensity.

Falahat Pisheh said: In a situation where the military burden of attacks has decreased, Netanyahu has tried to direct the war towards Lebanon to escape from the international pressure of the war. Hence, while the war continues, negotiations are still ongoing. This situation is not one that the Resistance forces welcome because it is unlikely that a peace plan will be realized in this situation.

In response to the extent to which the efforts of the Arab countries for peace and truce in Gaza and Palestine are real and operational, this international affairs expert stated: For years, most of the Arab governments no longer consider Palestine as their ideal and that of the Islamic world, but instead they consider it a problem and try to solve it in any way so as not to harm their trans-regional relations. They are very upset with the current situation and the war that broke out on October 7 because their political and economic plans in the region have been suspended.

He stated that the experience of the events of recent months in the region shows that the majority of Arab governments no longer consider the Zionist regime as their enemy, and said While in recent years, many Arab regimes in the region had maximum cooperation with the Israeli regime and its policies in the region. They supported America’s approach in backing economic and political interactions; it is unlikely that their concern and effort in mediating peace in the region are in line with the interests of Palestine and the people of this country; instead, this effort is aimed at their own national interests.

Falahat Pisheh stated: Behind the ceasefire plans proposed by America and Arab countries, the interests of these governments are hidden.

This expert on international issues stated: The remarkable thing about the pursuit of Palestine and Gaza issue by these countries is that in the middle of these negotiations and follow-up pursuits, they still follow their regional and political interests and sometimes even their differences with Iran, for example, ine they have brought up on the dispute over the three islands and are trying to use the opportunity of their get to gather for their benefit. While humanity and human rights are being destroyed in Gaza and Rafah today, the Arab regimes are only thinking about their own interests.

He added: On the other hand, we see that the initiatives that are proposed and expressed to solve the Gaza problem are based on the interests of the proposing governments, such as the initiative that Saudi Arabia presented to solve the Palestinian problem, in which it asked the United States to sign a new agreement. A security agreement should be concluded with Saudi Arabia so that Riyadh will accompany the Israeli regime in return. Also, in Egypt’s plan, Cairo’s concerns about the security of the borders and the influx of refugees to Egypt were discussed.
