Friday June 28 is yet another important milestone in the 45-year history of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is the day the nation will elect a new president from the list of six qualified candidates vying for the post of the Chief Executive.
World countries, especially their leaders, politicians and the media have been watching with interest the lively debates of the past two weeks of the hopefuls following the tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the martyrdom of President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi on May 19 this year.
Both friends and foes of the Iranian people, as well as the neutrals have their eyes glued to the events in Iran, where the stability of the system of governance is so solid and smooth that no plots or sanctions, nor even wars or deaths of the topmost officials can cause any disturbance.
President Raisi, whom fate did not permit to complete his four-year term, was exceptional. In the three years – short of a month – he spared no efforts to take the country to new heights of development.
He greatly improved the infrastructure, brought to completion some 9,000 dormant projects, initiated new ones, made Iran a member of such important international bodies as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, revived diplomatic ties with countries deceived by the West to sever relations, resumed launching of crucial satellites into outer space, and improved the economy.
Last but not the least he restored Iran’s dignity through lawful enrichment of uranium for peaceful use of nuclear energy to 60 percent. At the same time he pursued an active foreign policy to safeguard the stability of the region against malign US attempts to destabilize our neighbourhood. As part of this, the Late President strengthened the Axis of Resistance in the face of American-Zionist terrorism, especially Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the aggression on Lebanon.
Now, whoever of the hopefuls succeeds him as president in what is well set to be a tough competition, is expected to follow in the footsteps of President Raisi, who valued negotiations to end the unlawful US sanctions, but refused to bow to the West’s pressures by pursuing a nationalistic policy focused on Iran’s interests in all fields.
Iran’s foreign policy, whether diplomacy or active defence, will definitely not change under the next Chief Executive, and neither will the safeguarding of the Islamic shari’ah in internal affairs in line with people’s respect for Islamic laws, nor the adherence to the guidelines of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
This is indeed a dynamic framework for the progress and prosperity of the nation, as it whole-heartedly supports the governing system by rejecting enemy propaganda plots and is determined to reduce inflation and improve the living standards of the people.
So, let us keep our fingers crossed for the election of the most suitable person from among the six presidential hopefuls, since a strong and independent Iran is to the benefit of the whole region and the international community, no matter if the avowed enemies of the Iranian people, such as the US and the soon-to-be-vanished illegal Zionist entity feel frustrated.
