ISLAMABAD- Iran and Pakistan are neighboring countries, brothers, and friends. They share a common history and civilization that spans several hundred thousand years, creating an unbreakable bond between the two nations and governments in a way that the luminaries of both lands, such as Iqbal and Jinnah, Hafez and Saadi, and hundreds of other renowned figures, are equally respected by both nations.
Pakistan shines like a bright gem on the canvas of the great Islamic civilization. Its noble people are devoted to Islam and have an affinity for and love of Iranian culture. Fortunately, this unparalleled cultural and historical friendship and relationship, with a friendly and brotherly approach, has been blended with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, leading to close cooperation between the two governments in various economic, political, cultural, regional, and international fields today. These ties are derived from the focus of the esteemed founders and current leaders of both countries on common principles of "preserving religious and cultural identity," "political independence," and "commitment to moral and religious values."
Iran was the first country to officially recognize the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and spared no effort in strengthening this state. In return, Pakistan was also the first country to recognize the Islamic revolution of the Iranian people led by Imam Khomeini. This proud history is a valuable asset and a reliable guide in advancing the relations between the two "dear neighbors."
Cultural, historical, and civilizational ties are the most important assets of the two countries. Values and teachings derived from the Islamic faith, reverence for the sanctity of the Holy Quran, the great Prophet of Islam (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt, scholars and saints of God, efforts to create unity among Muslims alongside the proud history of the Persian language as a language of civilization, literature, and mysticism are indispensable elements of the friendly relations between the governments and peoples of the two countries.
With this long-standing history and eventful past, it is incumbent upon the two nations and governments to strengthen these unparalleled ties using all means possible. I hope that the efforts of the two great nations and governments of Iran and Pakistan will lead to significant achievements in all areas of relations. Undoubtedly, social interactions alongside government policies, as well as the role of elites and intellectuals of both countries, will lead to greater cultural awareness, mutual understanding, and preservation of shared religious and civilizational identity.
During my mission in Pakistan over the past year, I witnessed an indescribable sense of joy, warmth, love, and hospitality from the people of Pakistan. Fortunately, despite their long borders, Iran and Pakistan have never had territorial disputes. Based on this, the leaders of both countries are determined to transform the borders into borders of friendship, peace, and economic prosperity through a comprehensive approach. The opening of markets and border crossings and providing opportunities for improving the livelihoods of border residents are the result of good government policies which herald economic prosperity.
The shared border of approximately one thousand kilometers and access to open waters have provided a unique opportunity for the two countries to pursue "economic development and prosperity" with a strategic approach. We all know that the economic and trade capacities of the two countries are "complementary." Without a doubt, with the cooperation of the two governments and peoples of Iran and Pakistan, and the participation of all segments including youth and elites, we will witness more than ever the flourishing of relations between the two countries.
Close cooperation in international and regional arenas is another prominent aspect of the relations between the friendly and brotherly countries of Iran and Pakistan. In many international and regional issues, the two countries have had similar perspectives and have always supported each other in various forums.
Fighting terrorism, efforts to create peace, interest in multilateralism, defending the oppressed and opposing oppressors, condemning occupation and genocide of Muslims, especially in the issue of beloved Palestine, are among the common principles of the two countries' foreign policy. Pakistan's Islamic zeal has led to unparalleled support from its honorable government and people for the cause of Palestine and the fighters of Gaza, as well as condemnation of the crimes of the Zionist regime. Extensive popular demonstrations, political stances, international efforts and negotiations, media support, humanitarian aid, and Pakistan's commitment to dignity, status, and freedom have elevated its position among Muslim nations and freedom-seekers.
In this regard, the two countries have not abandoned their commitment to ethical and religious values while maintaining their principled positions despite all limitations.
