‘Little has changed’ in US foreign policy, CodePink says , giving Biden D

The United States’ foreign policy under President Joe Biden has come under rebuke by a left wing organization.

"On the foreign policy front, however, progressives are surprised and disappointed at how little has changed," CodePink said in a statement.

The group gave Biden a "D" grade for his foreign policy, yet praised his efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

"The American people are ready for a new, progressive foreign policy centered on cooperation, peace and diplomacy, especially in the face of the pandemic and the global climate crisis that demands a unified commitment to reduce greenhouse gases," the group said. "That’s why it is so disappointing that Biden is, for the most part, continuing Trump’s bullying, militaristic policies on the global scene."

As Biden's 100th day in office approaches, the Democratic president is coming under pressure in different sectors, most notably in the US foreign policy.

Biden has so far failed, for example, to return the United States to the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Comprehensive Plan of Action, which former President Donald Trump quit.

There are over 15,000 contractors who, as of now, are not withdrawing along with the remaining troops. Additionally, the NYT itself has even acknowledged this is just a shift to a less visible (drone, support, behind-the-scenes, etc) approach in Afghanistan

Biden’s best achievement so far has probably been his promise of finally withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan.

Earlier this month, the Democratic president announced that Washington would withdraw troops from Afghanistan by September, introducing a delay from the May deadline set by Trump.

Trump’s deadline would have "led the Taliban to continue peace talks and made the withdrawal easier,” CodePink noted.

Biden plans to end the US longest war while simultaneously trying to maintain military influence and the ability to carry out airstrikes in Afghanistan, according to US military officials say.

US has ordered non-essential embassy staff to leave the country’s embassy in the Afgahn capital Kabul.
