These days while we are celebrating the 42nd Ten-Day Dawn of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the topic raging in the media and among politicians is that whether the new US president is sincere enough in rectifying the wrongs of his roguish predecessor by lifting the illegal sanctions on world countries and companies that scare them away from doing business with Iran or repaying in hard currency what they owe to the Islamic Republic.
We are not in a position to read the mind of Joe Biden who, if he decides to unconditionally rejoin the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), ought to compensate Iran for the estimated 300 billion dollars damage Iran has suffered due to US economic terrorism under Donald Trump.
Well, to expect such a windfall from Washington would be nothing short of a miracle, if not a ridiculous idea, given US hostility towards Iran, especially since the grand victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 that threw the British-installed Pahlavi regime into the dustbin of history and freed the country from American hegemony.
As a matter of fact, US hostility towards Iran started in the early 1950s when Washington snubbing the overtures of the elected prime minister, Dr. Mohammad Mosaddeq, decided to gang up with London to overthrow him through a coup in order to restore to the Peacock Throne the fugitive Mohammad Reza in October 1953.
For the next quarter century the US exploited Iran to the full by stealing its oil wealth and humiliating the Iranian people, to the extent that the capitulation treaty was imposed upon them to grant immunity to Americans for any crime committed on Iranian soil.
Thanks to the grassroots movement of the Iranian people under the leadership of Imam Khomeini (RA), Iran succeeded in gaining independence and asserting itself is a power to reckon in West Asia, much to the chagrin of the US.
Mad with rage, the Americans now resorted to every imaginable plot to try to overthrow the popular system of Islamic government, including a military attack that ended in failure in the desert sands of Tabas, the 8-year war imposed through their agent Saddam of the repressive Ba’th minority regime of Baghdad, economic terrorism, media propaganda, cultural onslaught, and illegal sanctions.
Throughout the past four decades, never has for a moment the dangerously nuclear armed US shown any goodwill towards the Islamic Republic and despite the IAEA-confirmed nature of Iran’s peaceful nuclear project, it politicized the issue to force the JCPOA upon Iran in return for lifting all sanctions to defreeze Iran’s own illegally frozen monetary assets, which was actually a blackmail and not any reciprocal concessions on the part of the Americans.
To the horror of the outwitted Iranian negotiators at Geneva in 2015, the US never fully lifted its sanctions, while continuing its destabilizing activities in the region, in collaboration with the illegal Zionist entity and the rootless Arab regimes, as part of the plot to undermine the Islamic Republic.
In other words, the US still dreams of changing the system of government in Iran and retaking control of the country in view of its strategic geopolitical location in the West-Central-South Asian region, and its proximity to Southeast Europe and North Africa.
As the American writer, Noam Chomsky, had said, as long as Iran remains independent and does not surrender to US hegemony, Washington will continue its hostility and enmity.
To quote the Leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei: "The enmity of the arrogance camp with Islamic Iran is because of Islam. They are enemies of Islam, and since Iran adheres to genuine Islam, Washington will never drop its enmity towards the Iranian people.”
To be more precise, whether Biden rejoins the JCPOA or plays around to test Iranian patience, one thing is clear, the innate animosity of Washington will not end until the collapse of the United States of America itself.
