ABU DHABI – UAE dissidents have set up an association to resist against Abu Dhabi’s measures to normalize relations with the Zionist regime.
The association has been founded by several prominent UAE dissident figures, the Arabic-language service of Anadolu news agency reported.
The association is a civil institute that opposes normalization of ties with the Zionist regime in all forms, including in economic, sports, security, political and social fields.
In a statement, founders of the association have described the UAE’s attempts to normalize relations with the regime as "betrayal”.
There are reports that the UAE state security agency has secretly arrested scores of Emiratis, Palestinians and Jordanians living in the UAE for opposing the recent normalization deal with the occupying regime.
The Emirates Leaks website quoted human rights sources as saying that the Emirati citizens were arrested after expressing their opposition to the deal either in private meetings or on social media.
Emirati opponents living in exile have categorically rejected the agreement and described it as "betrayal of the nation and the people” as well as "a stain on the regime’s face”.
An opinion poll conducted by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy revealed that 80 percent of the Emiratis oppose the establishment of relations with the Zionist regime.
U.S. President Donald Trump on August 13, announced a deal brokered by his government between the occupying regime and the UAE which he said would lead to full normalization of ties between the two.
Critics see the deal as the latest attempt by Trump to save his presidential campaign against the Democrat Joe Biden.
Palestinians have reacted with shock and dismay after Trump unveiled an agreement between the United Arab Emirates and the Zionist regime to normalize ties.
Both the Palestinian leadership and public were caught by surprise when the announcement came on Thursday.
All Palestinian factions, including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, issued official statements denouncing the agreement. Palestinian leaders called it a "stab in the back”.
"We already knew that there has been normalization going under the table, but to formalize and legalize it that way at this critical moment is shocking. It’s a stab in our back and the back of all Arab nations,” stated Majida al-Masri, former PA minister of social affairs.
