WEST BANK (Kayhan Intl.) – A senior Palestinian official said on Tuesday that the Zionist regime is accelerating its move to implement the plan of annexing parts of the West Bank.
Walid Assaf, head of the National Commission to Resist the Wall and Settlements in the West Bank, told reporters that the West Bank witnesses unprecedented escalation by the Zionist regime, mainly the confiscation of lands and settlement expansion.
"Israel has officially postponed the implementation of its annexation plan, but what is happening on the ground is a large preparation for implementing the plan,” he said.
Oslo peace accords signed between the Zionist regime and the Palestinians in 1993 had divided the West Bank into three areas, as Area A is under the full security and administrative control of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Area B is under joined Zionist and PA administrative rule, while Area C is under full Zionist control.
"There is a significant and unprecedented Israeli escalation of confiscating lands and expanding settlements in Areas C to impose new realities on the ground,” said Assaf.
The Palestinian official said that these moves did not take place haphazardly and the Zionist regime carried them out in certain areas.
He called for organizing "official and public campaigns” to defend the targeted Palestinian lands and topple the annexation plan.
Zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he would start plans for annexing more areas in the occupied West Bank, in accordance with U.S. President Donald Trump’s "deal of the century” scheme, further infuriating Palestinians.
Trump officially unveiled his scheme in January at the White House with Netanyahu on his side, while Palestinian representatives were not invited.
More than 600,000 Zionists live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 occupation of Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds by the Zionist regime.
The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.
Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with East al-Quds as its capital.
