Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said Tehran and Beijing are concerned about the US’ negative role in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Hatami said the United States resorts to every possible means, including using terrorist groups, to achieve its own goals regardless of other countries' interests.
The US has created chaos in the international system, Hatami said in a meeting with Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) General Zhang Youxia in the Chinese capital Beijing on Saturday.
He added that breaching international regulations, waging trade wars and ditching international agreements, including the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate deal, are among the measures pursued by the US in violation of global security and order.
Hatami also hailed China’s support for the Syrian government at the international level, saying that Beijing’s support for the Syrian government has been highly effective.
Pointing to the “final stage of defeat of terrorism” in Syria, the Iranian minister said, “In such a complicated situation, the West Asia has become one of the regions of crisis in the world, as terrorists have aggravated it with extremism and separatism and with transregional backing.”
The Iranian defense minister and the Chinese commander stressed the need for closer Tehran-Beijing cooperation to contribute to regional peace, stability and security, calling for efforts to implement an agreement on strategic defense cooperation between the two sides.
Hatami and his entourage also paid a visit to a Chinese space center used for training astronauts.
Iran and China have close diplomatic, economic, trade and energy ties, and in recent years have developed their military relations.
