Iran has condemned the US-"Israeli" aggression at the BRICS Tourism Ministers' Meeting in Jaipur, saying more than 4,000 people have been martyred and 149 historical and cultural sites damaged, including five UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri said the attacks had caused profound suffering, including the deaths of civilians, children, and prominent figures from Iran's scientific, intellectual, and cultural communities.
He said the damage to Iran's cultural heritage highlighted the need to place human life, dignity, communities, and cultural preservation at the center of international cooperation.
Salehi-Amiri stressed that resilience should not only refer to the ability of tourism economies to withstand crises, but also to the ability of people and communities to preserve their identity, rebuild their livelihoods, and recover their dignity.
He also proposed establishing a BRICS tourism fund through the New Development Bank to finance tourism infrastructure and joint projects among member states.
He called for closer coordination between governments and the private sector to strengthen tourism cooperation.
Salehi-Amiri further proposed using the historic Silk Road and Spice Route to expand people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation among BRICS countries.
