Court releases Canadian author/activist Yves Engler on bail after five days in prison

Crescent International

Canadian author and activist, Yves Engler, was released on bail after spending five days in prison.

What was his “crime”?

On February 20, Montreal police charged him for the alleged ‘harassment’ of a fanatical, anti-Palestinian zionist, Dahlia Kurtz.

And what was this ‘harassment’ that the Montreal police found so objectionable?

Engler had challenged the rabid zionist on X for her support of Israeli genocide in Gaza.

He used other social media platforms as well to expose her crimes and the case that involved her.

Kurtz demanded that Engler not talk about the case on social media.

This was a direct assault on his freedom of speech.

Even the Montreal police joined in this Kafesque witchhunt and demanded that Engler not discuss this on social media platforms.

The Canadian author and activist refused.

The Montreal police arrested him and kept him in prison for five days.

Ultimately, Engler was brought before a judge on February 24.

The judge did not think it warranted his imprisonment and granted him bail.

During the court hearing, there was massive public support for Engler and his right to write what he wants.

Thousands of people signed letters asking for the charges to be dropped.

After Engler was granted bail, his lawyer John Philpot said he was pleased with the result.

“The right thing happened. He got out… which was very heartwarming. Free speech prevailed, which is a burning issue.

“We see a double standard in the legal process and the political process,” Philpot said.

While Yves Engler will appear again in court on April 25, for now he is a free man.

Lawyer Philpot said “We insist the charges be dropped against him and that he’ll be reimbursed for five days in prison. So that’s where we are at right now.”

Engler is strong critic of Canadian foreign policy, in particular supplying weapons to the zionist entity that has murdered tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians, the vast majority of them women and children.

Engler’s arrest and imprisonment raises troubling questions about freedom of speech and the police’s propensity for targeting Canadians who support Palestinian rights.

The police should have arrested Kurtz for supporting zionist genocide in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel may have committed genocide.

And the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former war minister, Yoav Gallant.
