Historic Mosque of Ibn Tulun in Cairo

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Mosque of Ibn Tulun is one of the oldest mosques in the Egyptian capital of Cairo as well as in Africa.

Ahmad ibn Tulun, the Abbasid governor of Egypt from 868 to 884 AD ordered the construction of the mosque, and the project started in 876 AD.

Constructed around an open square courtyard that allows natural light to travel through, the mosque features ancient architectural styles of Egypt.
