Raeisi: Iran reporters play important role in confronting enemies’ war on truth

Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi says the National Reporter’s Day (Aug. 8) is annually marked to honor journalists’ important responsibility and status and the efforts aimed at discovering the truth, promoting transparency and safeguarding people’s right to have free access to information.

Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi highlighted the increasingly important role of the country’s reporters and press in the face of the constant and serious war waged by the ill-wishers and enemies of the 1979 Islamic Revolution against the truth through distorting the reality and providing biased accounts.

Raeisi made the remark in a message on the occasion of the National Reporter’s Day (August 8) commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Mahmoud Saremi, the correspondent of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), along with eight Iranian diplomats who were killed by Taliban militants in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif in 1998, president.ir reported.

The president added Iranian journalists and press are required to stand against the “waves of destruction, lies and deception” unleashed by the enemies.

He stressed that the development and growth of the Islamic Iran and fulfillment of the lofty aspirations of the Islamic Revolution, late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will not be possible except in light of the effective role played by the country’s journalists and their efforts to provide information impartially and responsibly.

Raeisi said the National Reporter’s Day is annually marked to honor not only journalists’ important responsibility and status, but also the efforts aimed at discovering the truth, promoting transparency and safeguarding people’s right to have free access to information.

In separate messages on Tuesday, Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also congratulated the country’s reporters on the occasion.

Addressing reporters on the same day, Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber praised the country’s journalists and highlighted their important role.
