Ex-diplomat sees US as obstacle on finalizing JCPOA revival

Tehran, IRNA - Iran's ex-diplomat and former nuclear negotiator Hossein Mousavian says that the US is responsible for problems in way of reaching the final agreement on revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

World powers led by the US are not after providing guarantees for sustainability in the international nuclear deal, formally known as the JCPOA, Mousavian said in a meeting with members of the United States' Boston Committee on Foreign Relations.

About the history of the nuclear talks, Mousavian said that the reason behind the failure of the nuclear talks from 2003 to 2013 was the US that was unwilling to accept Iran's legitimate right under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT.)

While 2013-2015 talks were fruitful and led to the July 2015 nuclear deal because the US did accept Iran's enrichment right, the ex-diplomat added.

US withdrew unilaterally from the Iran Deal in May 2018 and imposed the highest level of sanctions against Tehran in November the same year.

As Mousavian noted, the claim made by the Zionist regime of Israel that Iran's nuclear program follows military aims is untrue.

Iran is not after developing nuclear bombs not just because of its commitments to the NPT and the JCPOA but also due to religious fatwa (verdict) issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that prohibits building nuclear weapons, the former nuclear negotiator stated.

He went on to say that Israel is the sole country in the Middle East that has not accepted NPT, neither has it allowed the International Atomic Energy Agency's inspection.

Meanwhile, this nuclear criminal accuses Iran of having a nuclear bomb; and this is while Iran is a member of the NPT and has given the maximum access to the IAEA, he underlined.
