Iranian Nuclear Scientist Assassinated in Tehran - Defense Ministry

Iranian Nuclear Scientist Assassinated in Tehran - Defense MinistryBy Ahadnews, Agencies

The Defense Ministry of Iran confirmed that nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been martyred after an assassination attack.

In a statement released on Friday evening, the ministry said “armed terrorist elements” have attacked the car carrying Fakhrizadeh, head of the Defense Ministry’s Research and Innovation Organization.

In a clash between the scientist’s bodyguard team and the assassins, Mr. Fakhrizadeh was seriously wounded and taken to the hospital, it noted.

The efforts by the medical teams to resuscitate the Iranian scientist failed and he was martyred, the statement added.

Reports suggest that the assassins had detonated another vehicle before shooting at the car carrying Fakhrizadeh.

A number of people have been killed in the incident, the identity of whom is still unknown.

A number of relatives of Fakhrizadeh were reportedly accompanying him at the time of assassination.

Fakhrizadeh was reportedly the only Iranian scientist that 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had cited in a program. The Zionist regime’s media say several assassination attempts to kill him had failed in the past years.

Reports suggest that the 'Israeli' spy service Mossad had gained information about Fakhrizadeh from the United Nations lists.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Chief Commander, Major General Hossein Salami said "The assassination of nuclear scientists is the most obvious violent confrontation of the domination system to prevent us from gaining access to modern science."

Commenting on the attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted on his Twitter account:

Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice—with serious indications of Israeli role—shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators Iran calls on int'l community—and especially EU—to end their shameful double standards & condemn this act of state terror.

For his part, Former IRGC Air Force Officer and former Iranian defense minister Hossein Dehgan said: During the last few days of the gambler and unethical guy [Donald Trump] sitting in office, the Zionists try to increase pressure on Iran.
