Leader Lauds ‘Vigilant’ Air Defense Forces

TEHRAN --- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has lauded Iran’s Air Defense forces for their contribution to the country’s national security.
Head of the Leader’s military office Brigadier General Muhammad Shirazi phoned commander of Iran’s Air Defense Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi-Fard on Monday to relay a message from Ayatollah Khamenei.
"Send my regards to the vigilant personnel of the country’s Air Defense. The country owes its security to the readiness and alertness of the Air Defense.  Our pious people are grateful for your unwavering efforts. Be appreciative of this,” the Leader said in his message.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely "meant for defense”, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.
A famous defense system that Iran has in its ranks is the Khordad 15 surface-to-air missiles capable of detecting fighter jets and combat drones from 150 kilometers away and of tracking them within a range of 120 kilometers.
According to Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami, the defense systems can also detect stealth targets at a distance of 85 kilometers and engage and destroy them within a range of 45 kilometers.
Khordad 15’s Sayyad 3 missiles can detect, intercept and destroy six targets simultaneously and also engage those targets within five minutes.
Deputy CEO of the research center Rezonans Alexander Stuchilin has told TASS that Iran’s Russian-made radar Rezonans-NE successfully spotted and tracked U.S. F-35 fighters near the country’s borders during an aggravation of tensions at the beginning of 2020 following the U.S. assassination of Iran’s General Qassem Soleimani.
"The radar’s personnel were clearly transmitting information, including the routes of F-35 flights, thus confirming that it was reliably tracking the planes. For this reason, the opponent did not commit any irreparable actions that might have caused a big war,” Stuchilin said.
