How bizarre can it get? When hundreds of students (600 or more) led by Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA) and their allies protested against Israeli military reservists at York University, members of the violent Zionist outfit, Jewish Defence League (JDL), attacked one of the protesters.
He was simply recording the event when a JDL thug punched him from behind, knocking him to ground. The victim had to be taken to hospital.
Far from condemning such violence, or police arresting the Zionist assailant, Canadian politicians jumped into the fray and twisted the facts. They condemned the peaceful protesters.
And it was not just Ontario premier Doug Ford, notorious for his racist diatribes, but Toronto mayor John Tory, another Islamophobe, and even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted condemnation of what they referred to as “anti-Semitism”.
It is truly shocking that Canadian politicians of all stripes would indulge in such dishonesty to appease the Zionists.
The November 20 event by Israeli Reservists was organized by Herut Zionism.
What were Israeli reservists—soldiers who have served in the Israeli army and killed innocent Palestinians—doing at a university campus in Canada?
The promotional flyer billed it as explaining what the Israeli army is doing in Palestine and speak out against Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS).
Alarmed by the presence of Israeli reservists at a university campus to promote the policies of an occupying apartheid regime, SAIA contacted the university administration to ask that the event not be allowed.
The university rebuffed the students’ request. Then SAIA said it would organize a peaceful protest to oppose Israeli apartheid.
The students held a meeting with campus security to ensure the event was peaceful.
Despite the presence of campus security and the Toronto police, JDL thugs attacked one of the peaceful protesters who was merely filming the event.
No arrest was made, hence no charges were laid; the assailant was escorted out of the venue!
The pro-Zionist outfit B’nai Brith, masquerading as a human rights organization, denounced the peaceful protesters as an “anti-Israel mob”!
According to the Canadian Jewish News, one of the anti-IDF protesters was attacked by a pro-Zionist after chanting “Free Palestine.” The Jewish newspaper also quoted Hailey Merten, a Jewish social work student at York, saying, “watching my community scream, call them horrible names and physically attack the other side, that’s not what our Jewish values look like.”
IDF is no ordinary military structure; it is made up predominantly of foreign fighters occupying Palestine.
In 2019, the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry concluded that IDF intentionally killed 35 children during the 2018 Gaza protests. Over the past 19 years, the IDF has killed 2,172 Palestinian children.
The scandalous part about IDF’s activities in Canada is that the Canadian mainstream media subtly glorifies the participation of Canadian citizens in the occupation of Palestine.
In 2019, CBC put together a report about Canadian Zionists with no ties to Palestine whatsoever. Instead of calling them foreign mercenaries or foreign fighters, a term reserved for Muslims only, the CBC called them “lone soldier.”
According to the 2015 report in Nationalpost “Each year, 15 to 20 Canadians — men aged 18-23, women aged 18-22 — visit Israel on the Garin Tzabar program, which prepares them for active duty. Many others arrive on their own.”
There is no need to elaborate what would happen if Canadian Muslims were to join the Syrian, Lebanese or Iranian armies to fight the Zionist entity.
Once back in Canada, they would be denounced as “terrorists”, arrested and put on trial.
Why the double standard with Israel? The answer is simple: the influence of the Zionist lobby over Canadian politicians.
One can imagine the reaction if the Chinese, Russian, Venezuelan or Turkish army were to show up in Canada to promote itself and potentially recruit Canadian citizens as soldiers in their army.
Any suggestion of this sort of action being normalized would be a political scandal in Canada, unless of course the entity in question happens to be Israel.
Western regimes are known for assisting Israel to violate international law and they treat the Zionist entity as being above the law.
Not everyone, however, has been so craven in their attitude to appease the Zionists.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) issued an open letter to York University President Dr Rhonda Lenton calling her out for her failure to prevent JDL thugs from being on campus. Instead, she like the politicians accused the peaceful protesters.
In its letter, CUPE pointed out that the vast majority of those attending the reservists meeting were not even members of York University but outsiders.
We quote from CUPE’s letter to highlight their principled position:
“Rhonda Lenton, your letter to the community reveals a shocking ignorance of what took place on November 20th. You have a responsibility to keep our campus safe, and you have failed.
“You failed when your agents, York Security, refused to remove violent people who were not even members of the York community. Many people pointed out that the Jewish Defence League (JDL), a group well-known for its brutal violence and Islamophobia, were in attendance, and Security did not care. This letter sent to the JDL (here is the full text if you need the reminder) in advance of the protest shows that the administration was very aware of the dangers they present. Yet they were not asked to leave campus.
“When marshals tried to get Security to expel the JDL members, since they were threatening and assaulting protesters, they were ignored. Marshals — York students without training or equipment — protected our community where Security refused to.
“You failed when York Security made a clear path so that the man who assaulted our member could flee the scene of the crime while his victim was carried out on a stretcher. The violence was premeditated and celebrated, and yet Security helped the assailant avoid charges by escorting him away from the scene.”
Without mincing words, CUPE told the University President:
“You failed in allowing this event to occur in the first place. Foreign militaries of any kind have no place on our campus. The IDF has been accused of war crimes by the United Nations, and yet they are welcome here? Furthermore, Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA) followed York’s rules and procedures by meeting with security ahead of the event, and warning them that violent outsiders were planning to attend to disrupt the protest. If there was advance planning to ensure everyone’s safety, it failed spectacularly. The safety of our community should be your first priority, not giving members of a foreign military a platform.”
CUPE must be applauded for standing up for truth and justice instead of giving in to bullies and thugs.
“Foreign militaries,” as CUPE pointed out, have no place on Canadian campuses, especially ones accused of war crimes by the UN.
